It is ok to ship wine to AK, CA, DC, HI, ID, IL, IA, LA, MO, NE, NV, NM, ND, OR, TX, WA, WV, WY. If your friend is not in one of these states then yes it is illegal...if you get caught.

If i go to someones house for dinner. I take a bottle of wine, for the host. Its not a present. But more so just a gesture. For a present, i would give something else. In which case, if it was my mother in law i was visiting for the first time. Maybe some perfume, or something like that.

Is your friend of the legal drinking age? People ship wine all the time. However, the only way I think you could get into trouble is if you were caught sending it to a minor.

I think it would be a wonderful idea. I would check with the owner/clerk at the wine shop and ask what are the laws of shipping wine. Good luck!

as long as they don't break no one would know. wine bottles are heavy though and would be expensive to ship. you could get an online gift certificate from a wine co. for your friend to use in their state, instead, and save on the shipping.
