It really depends on your plans. Cruising is great if you want to go to several ports. However, you are very limited on your time in each port. Some lines do stay a little longer, but it can be hard to find. You generally leave the port around 5 or 6 in the evening. So, you don't even get a full day.

But, cruising can be a good value and in the long run save you money. If you have a particular area you are wanting to go to spend your entire vacation, cruising will probably not be your best option.

I think cruising is a good way to "learn" about a port. You can go, explore the area for a few hours. Then, if you like it, you can return and spend an entire vacation there. It isn't as dissapointing if you don't like an area, but still have a few more places to visit. But, if you spend your entire vacation there and don't like it, it is a real bummer.

For me, I like cruising better. I just think it is so much more fun and enjoyable.

For the value, a cruise is better. You get all your food included in the price and you can go to many different places. Example: I am going on a cruise in Sept. out of Miami for 7 days with ports of call in Mexico, Grand Cayman, Honduras and Belize for $479/person on Carnival. To go to a tropical island for a week, all inclusive with air, you are looking at least 2x more. That will be my 3rd cruise and the 3rd of many!
