Raul and George are retarted its better to have a high db in either volume or eff for the eff part what that means is that if i take the same amp and 1 watt (or any amount for that matter) to both speakers equally the speaker with the higher effency will play louder so if your lookin to be loud for cheap try to get as high as possible (and not on drugs)

if your talking db as in volume, its better to have more.
if your talking db as in efficent, which is the "db" mark on most subs stats, its actually how efficant it is at 1 watt, and a certaint frequincy. so the higher db rating the more efficent the sub is. or any other speaker for that matter.
hope this helps.

well if you want to have pure optimum performance you would set the system up like this from the radio run you rc cables into a a high, mid, low, and subwoofer crossover. then run your rc cables from you highs to you amp for your highs, th rc cables from your mids to your amp for mids, and an rc cable from the lows to your amp for lows. now you are left with a output for your subwoofer, this has taken you stereo sounding output from your deck and converted it to mono and is strictly for subs, you would run this into another three way crossover (high, mid, and low) and have set up 3 amps and 3 different sets of subs, one set of subs would be 10" then 12" and finally 15" you would run an rc cable from the high output of this second cross over to the amp you have your 10's set up on, then you would run an rc cable from your mid output of this second crossover and run it to your amp that has your 12's hooked up, then run the rc cable for your low sub out put to the last amp that has the 15's hooked to it and you are golden everything is split and gonna sound crisp. now ofcourse to gain more power form your subs you would bridge the connections and drop your subs from their standard 8 or 4 ohm to a 4 or 2 ohm and gain more power from your amps, the more you bridge the more it will drop but you can only bridge them so much and you have to make sure your amps can take it, plus to keep your stereo from draining out your car battery you would want to install a higher output alternator, a better car battery designed for boom cars, and power caps that store power in them and then feed it to your amps. this whole combo will give you a good banging system but the cost is there. if all you want to do though is just hear the thump from a sub and don't mind some distortion make sure you run your lows to them, and try to ake it run in mono or get a special sub amp tha only has a mono output.

greater db gets you extra quantity for the comparable quantity of skill, yet i think of the sound high quality of the sub is maximum serious. Get your amp attached and make your shop demo their sub alternatives for you on your motor vehicle.
