but I think it has something to do with the exhaust. When I attempt to accelerate, there is minimal power and it is loud with a gassy smell. What may be the problem?

sounds like you might have a vacumm leak, while the car is running feel around for a noticable stream of air under the hood, around the motor, most liekly towards the back of the motor near the firewall

Does it still shift? Is there a grinding noise? When you look under the car is the muffler or exhaust pipe dragging on the ground?

had a friend who had a similar experience, he was thinking he had a hole in the exhaust pipe.

you have broken a vacuum hose at the manifold,probably a main vacuum line have it replaced it should fix your problem
