This happened to me as a number of receptions were at the same hotel. It took me quite a while to realize I did not know anyone

No, but I went to the wrong funeral visitation!! There were two bodies in two rooms . I did not notice and I was looking at the lady in the casket. A lady came up to the casket and I said, "Gosh, she looks so different without her glasses." And that lady gave me a really hard stare, and I was like, "What the,...""

I was standing there and like you said, I didn't know anyone. I just happened to turn my head and there in the other room across the way was a room full of the people I DID know!
I just ever-so-coolly (I thought), switched rooms, but I was laughing at myself inside. It was hard to have a solemn face
But I finally gained my composure and settled down to those people.
ANYWAY, what an experience. I STILL think it's funny!

I went in to the reception with another friend of mine. We were early so we started helping light candles on tables, etc. Finally we went up to look at the cake and realized we were in the wrong place...lol

The reception hall we were supposed to be at was about a 1/2 mile on farther down the road. Everyone got quite a laugh out of it but we were late to the "real" reception...lol

Nearly, when one of my cousins married there were two receptions being held in the same hotel on opposite sides of a corridor - which had a "bulletin board" style thing sitting in the middle of the corridor to tell you what was happening where in the hotel - both grooms had the same surname and there were no arrows pointing to tell you which was which, so you had to take your chances ...

I did go to the wrong funeral visitation, they were holding two at the same time. Took me awhile since closed casket, and too many people around, until I saw someone I knew in the other room, and said What are you doing over there? Hey, they are over here!- I just walked to the other side and gave my condolences to them also.

Yes I did. And it was my own wedding! I was so embarrassed that I didn't mention it and ended up being married to a total stranger called Helga. We now live in Devon on a pig farm.

I put on a smile that was just as stupid as all the other participant's.

I ate like a pig, drank like a camel.

I had fun, tried to date a few singles.

And had a great time..
