The key word here is meaning, not color. Throughout history, color has been used to symbolize and communicate. Even the cave paintings in France tell us that color was important in expression. The cave artists used varied chemicals to produce the colors that explained the kill (red "blood" on a brown animal, the importance of the artist by outlining in a spray of white, etc.) Colors that are less "natural" were harder to create in fabrics or were found in gems and so, became associated with the rich ("royal blue, rich purples, and crimson reds). Over time, specific colors have developed specific meaning for certain cultures (white for purity in the Christian wedding and reds for luck in eastern weddings). Some colors have meaning from a very young age (there is comfort and relaxation in a soft blue, like a summer sky or anxiety from a stormy sky gray) and others are learned from their association to things that may not be a part of each person's daily life (gold or silver indicating extravagance or richness). There are some that put a religious or spiritual spin on color (auras, chakras, fung shui, etc.), but I personally believe that these are all elaborations on natural and logical associations between color and our lives. There are some great books and sites about color...see links below.

They don't really have meaning but some people see emotions in colours. I've never really looked at them like that but I think it's nice to look for the less obvious and to see the subtleties some colours have.

Yes. But sometimes people see that color with a different meaning. Blue for example can mean sadness or relaxation. It depends on how you look at it. Red can mean death and blood and love. So however you look at it.
