Etiquette and tradition state that the man should ask the bride's father for her hand and then propose to her.

Well, throw etiquette out the window and think about it for yourself.
Are you ready to get married?
Do you want to propose?

Go for it! It's unexpected, it's romantic, and above all else, it could be you! I promise if the woman proposes, nobody will walk up to her and say, "No, you can't get married until he asks you."

Time's are changing so etiquette just needs to catch up!

If a woman proposing doesn't hurt the man's feelings, then it wonderful. There is no law stopping the woman but there still is a bit of pride and ego in it for men. So I think the best advice is to fit it to every relationship. If you think your guy wouldn't mind it then great go for it, but if you think that he still had that little bit of tradition in him then let the man propose. But it might now be as soon as you want it to be,if you give up the option then you cant complain about the timing.

Let's not call it proposing. Call it a discussion, coming to an agreement about the future of your relationship. Why wait for the guy to do the proposing and have no say in the direction where the relationship is going.? Not smart.

Yes it matters but also no it doesn't. Tradition says the guy should be the one to propose. Guys egos say they should be the ones to propose. But women have proposed to their fiances before. It doesn't happen often. You should do what feels right to you.

It is just old fashion for the guy to propose. But I'm an old fashion type person. I guess if you've talked about it and you are both planning on marrying each other it doesn't matter who proposes.

I don't think it matters at all. Traditionally it is the guy, but if I wanted to propose to my man, I would do it without a doubt. I am waiting on him to do it though, he is old-school. Good luck!

I proposed to my fiance. I think it's a great idea, and you should set it up to where it'll be a special memory, just like you would want him to do for you. Make sure that you doing the proposing isn't going to threaten his manhood, though.

My wife proposed to me. But we also had many discussions about our feelings and future before that happened. I thought it was nice and I remember thinking at the time that I would be 'foolish' to let this woman out of my life. We married and she's just wonderful.

I think it really depends on the people involved...a lot of people are ok doing that...I for one am kinda old-fashioned and would never be able to propose to a guy...I think it is his place...So it really depends on the people involved...There are so many different views on this...I say go with whatever you feel...
