Art is communication so you need to rely on others to know if your message is coming through loud and clear.

You would be able to tell by people's reaction to your art.... if it moves them and provokes thought, then you've got talent.

What makes one artist better than another? That depends on what you mean by better. More financially suscessful artists know how to market themselves and make a living from their art, but there are plenty of people who are making great art and do not making a living at it. Their success would be making art that compels the viewer to think about the piece and what you were trying to convey to them. Which is better?

Being a successful artist means growing as a person from your art. Sharing it and enjoying it is a success in my opinion.

Someone who can develop their skill to their fullest ability and who challenges themselves (and sometimes the world) to create art.... those are the great artists.

If you have any visual art talent you probably can draw some. To some people art comes naturally, and to others it comes with time. Either way practice makes perfect. Try looking at a simple object, perhaps a box, or a peice of fruit and try to draw it. After you draw it put it next to your item and see how close it comes... ask for an opinion. If you totally blow your drawing and it looks like nothing on this earth, or a three year olds sketch...you may not have visual art talent. Yet, if it really looks very close to what you actually TRIED to draw, you may be half way there. I know that I love to sit in a chair and draw the ENTIRE room including the book I am drawing in. I like it to look exactly and perspectively like what is really there. I want someone to see it and say... Cool! You drew the room you were sitting in! If you are visually artisticly talented... you probably have an idea already. If you don't know for sure then try sketching for a while and see how well you do. If you don't improve with practice... you probably aren't. Above all find something you like and enjoy it... whether you are good at it or not isn't important as long as you aren't trying to make money off of it!

:) Have fun!

The answer here needs to be opinion. Personally, I think that there are many many people with visual art talent. I think what you are really asking is how does someone become "famous"? I asked this question of a museum curator once. You will find that very few large museums are really on the cutting edge with displays. They are really about 20-30 years behind the times. Some artists get there by "shock value", others by innovation in media, and still others by persistence and dedication (sheer volume). Quality and creative expression/ideation are essentials, but that step into the area of icon requires a special dedication to not only mastery of technique, but a recognizable depth into a particular style or period. Find something that is interesting to you and explore it to its fullest! Recognition and financial gain also come from self-promotion (unless you want it posthumously...but who wants that?).:)

If you think you're awesome, that may limit you more than someone who isn't afraid of always trying to improve themselves. Anyone can get to be a great artist if they have the desire and devote an appropriate amount of time -- master artists (i.e. Michelangelo) typically are gifted in that it doesn't take them as long to produce the same skill level. Back in the day, you knew Michelangelo was in the studio because marble chips were flying off of the block, he was a super genius at sculpture. He had a lot of assistants in his workshop, which aided his productivity level, but ultimately he had the vision of what had to happen... if you have that, you can be a great artist, regardless of your physical skill level or years of experience.

I think it is the inner desire for visual art, the willingness to learn and practice practice practice, Visual art is more open then let's say singing (where an off-key note can't be hidden). You just have to learn learn learn. find your style find your touch. don't compare yourself to others. does this make sense to you. I'm going to school myself after being out of school since 1976 and I constantly compare myself to others and thinking that my stuff is bad. But as I am doing that OTHER people come up to me and tell me how great my stuff is while I'm thinking how bad it is. but I have always been a doodler and I love art. Really getting into digital stuff. And yes it is an art-form. I hope this made sense to you don't give up

music. that is the easy decision, of direction - our society celebrates musicians, even novice ones, far more effective than it celebrates artists of different disciplines. (i'm also biased because i became raised taking section in some units, and extra biased because i have in all likelihood been far more effective immersed in musical leisure than seen artistry.) yet i have were given some issues in my existence holding me from being dismissive of the seen arts. My present day profile image the following is a few thing a good chum (ex-female friend, easily, yet besides good chum) did for me with some wise shadow paintings. i have even were given a coworker who does large-scale whimsical paintings of paintings that take her like 40 8 hours on to produce - a number of that are featured round my position of work now. seen artistry will be exceedingly cool - yet i'd be mendacity if I suggested there have been not musical works that had even more effective of an effect on me.

I think everybody has the ability to be creative. Its just how you improve and develop it. And you do that by learning different techniques and experimenting. By doing this you'll learn to find your distinct style - something that differentiates you from the rest.

depends on the type - abstract artists are not portrait painters and vice versa. Most have a niche that they appeal to.

It's a mix of affinity and learning curve = talent. And practice will dictate if you will get better or not.
