From personal experience, I wouldn't judge any dog from a breed stand point but from the individual dog it's self. You can find good or bad within any breed do to their up bringing. A general rule is that smaller dogs do not do as well with children as larger ones, because they tend to nip more and feel more threatened by a small child, whereas a larger dog couldn't care at all. From your list, and from dog's I have owned or have been familar with - check out - boxers or goldens first, labs & collies are both great, but I have to tell you - I had one, and if you have room in your house and your heart - a Newfoundland is the very best.

No dog should be left unattended with babies/kids.
A dog of any breed can have bad and good temperament and be well socialized or otherwise. A reputable breeder will tell you about advantages and disadvantages of their breed, help to chose a puppy that is more suitable for a family with kids and is sure to properly socialize the puppies.
Before buying a dog, you should think twice about other things as well - like grooming, exercising, training, etc. Can you afford spending a lot of time with a dog if you have a baby?

while i replace into youthful (an prolonged time in the past), it replace into believed that grownup canines must be fed basically as quickly as an afternoon. Then some scientists got here upon that canines replace into under pressure and annoying between food while in user-friendly terms fed as quickly as an afternoon, and have been lots extra comfortable and soft on 2 food per day. So now we've faith that canines must be fed two times an afternoon. It does not must be extra food. you could basically divide the common volume fed to the dogs in a million/2, served two times an afternoon. maximum canines will eat any time food is accessible and prefer to get handouts from people, the extra, the extra clever, whether or no longer they choose it or are hungry or no longer. maximum canines will beg for food, truly in the event that they have ever been given any by making use of a individual, and stare at people ingesting. that's wide-spread. yet while the dogs is basically too skinny (ask the vet) then it could choose extra food.

They are all great with childeren. Of course, Labs,Goldens, and Boxers are fantastic family dogs and put up with everything from being dressed up in clothes to having crayons stuck up their noses! FYI-Boxers need to be around children when they're still very young to get used to their behavior. Do NOT adopt a full grown Boxer and expect it to be good around kids, because their previous owner may have been an idiot and trained it to be aggressive!

We are partial to Golden's since we breed them. Yes, Goldens are great with even new-borns! Westies are a good dog, but be careful of the small and toy breeds. A Lab can be like Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde. You could regret getting one for the rest of your life! Newf's and St Bernards are great also, but they can be very expensive for a quality pup.

golden's and labs are wonderful with kids... i wouldn't recommend a sheltie or collie simply because they tend to want to "herd" kids and can sometimes get too rough. Bichons are good if you're looking for a smaller dog too

You certainly can't go wrong with the top 2. Be prepared for an extended puppy stage (2 years). But they are great companions.

Newfies are great!! Hairy and drooly, but the sweetest dog you will find....without the hyper-ness of the Lab.
Saints are NOT Newfies. They can have temperment issues and need more socializing than Newfies.
