Or driven when you had been drinking? Drove while buzzed? Have you ever been caught? What was your excuse for driving after you'd been drinking?

Just so you know, any time you get a DUI you will incur fines, towing fees, the point(s) on your record, the insurance costs, the attorney fees, the time you spend in court, the possibility that you could hurt or kill yourself or someone else, the possibility that you will have to fix or replace your car if it is damaged, the time you will have to spend in a program (in most states, you will always have to enroll in a program for alchoholics, etc, even if it's your first DUI). Also, on your third DUI (at least in California) you have to spend a minimum of 120 days in county jail - there's no way around that- and on the fourth DUI it becomes a felony, and you can imagine how bad that can get depending on your priors, criminal record, laws in your state, and the judge you go before.
Just a little info for you.

I was not drunk but I had been drinking and should not have been driving. I was stopped for speeding but he never tested me for alcohol so I was safe there. I made it home - no one was hurt. But it was the dumbest thing I ever did and I will never do it again. No one should drive under the influence. It is asking for trouble. The drinker is not usually hurt because they are relaxed - it is the innocent people that are hurt. Be smart. If you drink, designate a driver.

My excuse for drinking and driving was, I was a total idiot. I could have driven with someone else. I could have called for a ride. I could have done a lot of other more sensiable things other than get behind the wheel. Yes, I was only "buzzed" but in most states "buzzed" can land you in jail which is exactly where I ended up. It was the night before Thankgiving several years ago. Me and some friends from out of town getting together since we hadn't seen each other in a while. I truely only had 2 drinks and 1/2 of a third before I left. I got stopped about 3 miles from the bar. No real reason. I wasn't driving bad. But they had been sitting down the street from the bar and saw me leave. Being an idiot again I was following my friends and they hit their breaks playing around and I had to swerve a little to keep from running into them. Hello Mr Officer right behind me! 2 1/2 drinks in 4 hours was enough to be driving impaired. I went to jail and spent the night. I woke up the next day sitting in a cell with a nasty little child molester as a cell mate. My Thanksgiving meal came on a plastic prison plate and looked like crap. I tradded it for a candy bar by the way. I could have bailed out if it hadn't been a holiday but, it was a holiday and I stayed another night. I got out and paid a lot of money and since then have never drank and tried to drive. This is only a very mild story. I spent a holiday in jail but survived and didnt hurt anyone being stupid and drinking and driving. I cant say the same for one of my friends who was with me that night. Just last year while overseas he had some drinks in a bar and then had an accident on the way home. He killed a father and his 9 year old son. My friend is in jail for the rest of his life there. He doesnt care about that. It's the nightmares that keep him up everynight that get to him. All I can say is listen to everyone who says dont drink and drive....

Yup, coming back from bars in Biloxi in the 1960's (so drunk I could not walk). It's a ***** when you see only two single middle lines; but when you see 3 then you just follow the one in the middle. So the drunker one gets the easier it is to navigate!
As you realize I jest..I could have been killed many times over. And I was very lucky to survive those wild years. Since my best Friend, Robin Adams, grandfather was governor of the state of Mississippi, I never worried about jail which only made me bolder and wilder. I could have easily killed someone or a whole family. I just ran over a very large and pretty statue in front of someones mansion on the service road to the scenic highway.
And yes I got caught, but Robin Adams was in the car with a bunch of other goof offs..so the state trooper just escorted us to Robin's house. We used to get police escorts to the Louisiana state line in Robins new Mustang going 90 MPH plus....Well those days are gone forever. And for the better I might add!

Once, I didn't think I drank that much, but I hadn't eaten anything so once I started trying to drive I realized I was too drunk, but I barely got down the street, someone else drove my car home. Now I always have a D.D. or drink at home.

Yes a few times, once got into an accident, thank God I didn't hurt any one but myself. Got a DUI and it costs me close to 10,000. And I totaled my husbands crown victoria car. needless to say he was not happy about that, but was thankful I was ok, only a few scrapes and bruises. I still drink but try not to go long distances if I've had too many. It's not worth it!!!!!!

I am really ashamed to admit it but yes I have, years ago. No excuse in the world is good enough. There is just no excuse for this type of behavior. A few years ago my friend was killed by a drunk driver.
No, I was not caught.

No. and i hope you know that if you do, that the second something happens (accident based) you cannot turn back time and your life will never be the same.....the guilt, the nightmares, your conscience................the fact that your life will never go smooth again bc someones life was in your hands and you have the rest of your life to think about it, dwell on it and throw your own self into an early grave

unfortunately i have done all of the above, however not on long distances and i have never been in a wreck b/c of it. i was pulled over once when i was drunk for going thru a yellow light at 1am. he asked me to get into his car and made me follow a light with my eyes...he said he knew i was drunk, but he let me drive home while he followed with no ticket or warning. that was a close encounter that taught me to never do that again...and i haven't since then and i wouldn't suggest it to anybody

I've driven having already had a few drinks, which is WRONG! I was drunk one day and nearly drove but 3 GREAT friends took my keys away and drove me home.
