I know that we could never totally end illegal immigration, but with troops on the borders and stronger persecution of illegals within the country, I believe we could cut it by 80% in ten years.
What would the result be within Mexico if they couldn't flood people into our country. I believe the result would be positive. Mexicans would be forced to face the sorry state of affair in their country and do something about it. If the elites knew that the poorest and most desperate in their country could not go elsewhere, they would be forced to attend to their needs, instead of ignoring them. Sure there would be some turmoil, maybe even a non-violent revoltuion, but I believe the results would be positive.
What do you think?

smithj- jesus, it is not "mean" to secure your own borders. Mexico has to deal with their own problems, not act like we are their daddy.

I believe Mexico would be forced to improve if we secured our borders. They have a current economic policy of getting rid of their poor people by sending them here, which is obviously uncaring and irresponsible. If we stopped being their welfare state, maybe they could improve the lives of their people.

The problems within Mexico are really a result of NAFTA which is why the U.S. is being such a soft touch about the illegal immigration issue. NAFTA is good for the U.S. but it isn't good for Mexico.
But I am sure you are right. The problem is just the sheer numbers. And I think we are going to have to have troops at the borders.
But the Mexican government is not equipped to deal with the issue. And the Mexicans who come here are not productive or useful to the Mexican government. I think prosecuting them and sending them home is a sure way of prosecuting them and sending them home again and again and again and again.
And I don't think the elites care much about them, either. It's like the elites in this country don't care much about the homeless or the mentally ill or the disabled in this country.
Since this country doesn't give much thought to turmoil before we engage in turmoil, I don't think we have much to lose to consider your proposal.

Yes. Mexico has been taken over by those with money but if the poorer people came together they could move the country to help them. But some many good people come to the USA leaving Mexico without a lot of motivated people. We get a lot of good people from Mexico, to bad we have a lot of bad people in the world who use these people for bad stuff.

Little worth while is free. yes there is already some strife in Mexico as a result of tightening borders. We have to do what is good for America. Is it "good" for Mexico if we as Americans continue to be enablers by allowing little growth in Mexico because we are constantly providing them a way out. Americans are very compassionate people but it is time for Mexico to start to do something for it's own good.

I don't care what would happen in Mexico and long as it thins out my town of illegals. It used to be a nice place here but not now. Too many illegals are attracted to this place because of our agriculture plants. The town looks like crap. Most do not speak English. Just this week five people got into trouble over false documentation. Five down and about 21,000 to go!

They'll either fix their problems or implode. And, after the way their government has taken advantage of ours for the last several decades, I don't care.
It is not up to your neighbors to fix your financial difficulties. If the family living two doors down from me has twice the income, should I be allowed to live in their house, make them pay my medical bills, move the rest of my relatives into their house, and force them to give me spending cash? How about if they get to write all of us off on their taxes? Won't that cover their expenses?
Crossing our border is no different. They cost our government way more than they save consumers with a few cheaper products. Seal the border and let them learn how to survive on their own. It's like kicking a baby bird from the nest. He has to learn how to fly someday...

I believe it would, maybe not the 1st year, but having the border closed is the closest we can come to putting a collective foot in Mexico's *** to work a little harder towards reforms that'll benefit more than the top 1% of people income-wise in Mexico. They can cough up some of that spare oil money/drug money change and 'share the wealth' with their poor...

WE must seal the border, everything from people, drugs, guns,to terrorists can get across now.
Mexico is using us as a dumping ground to get rid of the people they do not want
In less than 6 mos. the military could build a coast to coast road and a defensive fenceline, double apron, concertina with tanglefoot,300 yrds thick. Add electronic and manned observation posts and we could make sneakins real hard

It's not our problem!! Mexico will need to deal with it. As strong and intelligent as they claim to be (LOL) they could build castles of gold and streets of silver in a matter of months. They need to go on down there and get started!!
I really think it will be just like it was when they left it. They'll be just as filthy, lazy and ignorant as they are here in the USA. Of course they won't have a free handout for all their wants and needs like they do here.
The USA will be MUCH BETTER OFF WITHOUT them.

I think it might get worse before it gets better. That does not mean we should be responsible for their problems as a dumping ground for those they can't take care of, however.
Still, the fact is that things would have to really hurt in Mexico to get any meaningful change there, if history is any guide. I think it would ultimately happen, but it might not be pretty.
