Even though I've used that flea medicine the vet gave me, you know the one in the tube that costs alot. A flea jumped on my arm while I was sitting on the couch last night. I now notice my cat is scratching and biting a little. Could there be bad tubes of flea medicine and besides vacuuming what else can I do to put in my carpet that would be safe. I will not use a flea bomb in my house and now I'm skiddish and keep thinking there are fleas jumping on me.

Keep a flea collar inside your vacuum cleaner bag at all times. If there are any live ones left and they get sucked up they'll die in there and won't come back out to lay more eggs. You can also get flea traps to set up. They have a little light and attract the fleas to sticky paper. That way you'll know for sure that you got rid of them. Bombs do work well, but if you don't want to use them you may have to call an exterminator. Other than that, keep cleaning. You can use some flea spray, but you'll have to get it everywhere, incl. inside your couch. The good thing about sprays is that they make some that are not toxic to people and pets.
You can dip the cat at home, it's tricky, they don't like it and if there is any fleas left in your home it's basically useless.
Get a flea collar on her nonetheless.
Good luck, dear.

I think it depends on the severity of the flea problem and the fact that some of the medicines take a few weeks to do the trick.

If your house is infested, I feel for you. We had no choice but to bomb the place when we had a flea problem a few years ago. It's awful!!

One natural way to help kill them is to put shallow dishes of warm really soapy water down on the carpeted areas, it will attract the fleas and they will drown. It helps, but if it's bad I'm afraid you will have to bomb. :(

You've got to clear the fleas from the garden, sleeping place or other pets that the cat is in contact with daily - otherwise the condition will remain. Flea bites can cause infection.
