Ad-Aware SE Personal is a Lavasoft product and is free to download at www.download.com. Two other good programs are Spyboy Search & Destroy, and SpywareBlaster. Both of those programs protect your PC from spyware before it gets installed. Spybot can also scan your PC. I recommend running both and Ad-Aware and Spybot scan because I've seen cases where one finds something that the other doesn't. Make sure to update the definition files before running your scans. This will make sure you are searching for the most recent problems. I use all 3 of these programs on my PC and haven't had any spyware/adware problems since. Spybot and SpywareBlaster download sites can be found by using your favorite search engine.

Some weeks ago I had a problem with my computer, it was slowing down and i couldn't explain why some websites where redirecting! Since I had a good (norton) antivirus system I did not think that I had spyware! , however a friend of mine came to my house and immediately told me that I had a spyware program, he entered into a site downloaded one of the free programs featured there and installed it on my computer, after running this program my computer is fast and downloading normally, whilst my homepage was also restored.

the webpage where you can find free reliable anti spyware is:

Avast has a scanner and virus cleaner. You have to have the free home edition anti-virus software though. I really like this one. I had a win32.sasser on mine and it washed it right out and restored some files. My PC is running smoother now. It also has a kick a$$ database update. The only thing that it doesn't seem to be compatible with is the Adaware software. But that is because it is a data miner. AND on the plus side of things, both the anti-virus and the cleaner are totally free. Yeah, I have the Adaware SE on my computer too. But you can set it up to accept the program as safe file.

You can download a little touted program "Hitman" which is normally available on www.download.com.
Hitman uses the several of the popular Spyware programs that are available today and runs several of them each day on your computer. Set it and walk away. Come back an hour later and it will have run all the programs (including its own) and you will be clean. This is a program that is used extensively by gamers. Try it.

The newest program yet is Windows Live One Care, you get three months of free protection and after the trial expires, just re-istal it and you have another three months, better than Mcafee and Symantec
