If so, who was it?

I didn't know a serial killer, but I did see him and used to park my car about 50 yards from his house.

The man was Fred West, I used to watch him as he did construction work on my neighbors home. I later attended a college in Gloucester, England and the parking lot was right behind his home. In fact one night I got stranded in the parking lot with a dead battery. A few years after this incident I found out that he was living and killing right there just yards away.

I didn't know a serial murderer, but I befriended a man who had committed a multiple murder of three police officers in a drug-induced rage. After twenty-three years, he was released from prison and had since straightened up. At the time, I taught criminology at school and he was a guest lecturer for this class a few times to discuss prison life and the effect of using drugs. He developed severe diabetes, ended up on dialysis and later died of heart trouble. Not everybody who commits murder remains bad forever - he wasn't a sociopath or anything; I think he just had done too many drugs and didn't know the consequences of his actions at the time.
