3-1/2 years ago I had 3 root canals done. Since then I've had all kinds of problems on my right side. My right ear hurt, my right vision has been blurred. I even was hospitilazed for 5 days for severe vertigo (only on right side) with follow up by neurologists only to find nothing. Last week I was out to eat and I had severe pain in one of my crowns, swollen right side of face also, back to the dentist, I was told I had a root fracture, severe infection and need an oral surgeon to extract? I need more info. which I cannot seem to find. Anyone heard of this happening? Thanks. Jo

They didn't finish the root canal and some of the root was left in there to get infected. When a root canal is done, they take little steel probes and go into the root of the tooth and start scraping it out. When they are done, they will put antiseptic strips of cotton up inside the root canals and seal it, then put a crown over the tooth. If you have been having problems with that tooth for that long, there might not be anything that they can do and an extraction is coming. I would go back to the dentist and make sure that there isn't another tooth that needs to have a root canal too.

this is pretty rare but unfortunately it does happen. a root canal must be done when decay has invaded the pulp. after a root canal you get the crown put on and hopefully you are done. the problem is that when you remove the pulp during a root canal you are also removing the blood supply and thus the water from the inside of the tooth. the result is that the tooth dries out from the inside and due to brittleness it can crack. once the root fractures it's time for the tooth to go the way of the do-do bird.

popping it out will take exactly 3 seconds. what to do about the gap then? get an implant! your dentist can tell you more but it's what i would do to replace a missing tooth.

this isn't that big of a deal and i don't know if it's related to your vertigo. to be honest i doubt it.

good luck

I have had a nightmare with 1 tooth in my mouth. I have had fillings, root canal, an apico-ectomy (sp?), and then I still had an infection (a puss blister on my gum). I was so angry. I have 1 filling in my whole mouth and I have have like 4 procedures done on it. I figured i would try to fix the infection myself before I went back under the Dentist's knife. I went to the local Coffee shop and bought Golden Seal Tea (you can also get golden seal at a health food store). I made the Tea 2 times a day and used it as a dental rinse - as hot as i could stand it (if you feel the infection has spread through your body, you might want to actually drink the tea - but it tastes bad). Morning and night for a solid week I rinsed like this. By the end of the week the infection was gone and it has not returned in 12 years.

Alternatively, if you think it is a systemic infection that has spread to your ear and eyes, etc., maybe your doctor or dentist can prescribe some anitbiotics to get rid of it.

You may have had whats known as a dry socket, and your now just starting to fill this, ouch it hurts so bad even crying wont help. Go to a very good dentist, to see exactly what is going on in your mouth, If its something bad, it can be fixed.

I would be asking questions and getting your answers from the hospital or dentist.
