Short version: I read in a book last night written by Christians that secular humanists are going to hell because they don't believe in Jesus, and that their morality is always changing cause its not based on the absolute existence of God, but changes cause science is always changing the view of the world.

So my question is, do Christians really believe this? Do you really try and label me as a non-Christian? Do you really think people who aren't Christians don't have an absolute morality?

I think most Christians are decent people and know this stuff isn't true, but theres a part of our culture that is being given books like this and they believe this stuff without learning about other people.

Do Christians really believe what?

If you are asking if non-Christians are going to hell, the Bible says that they are (2 Thessalonians 1:8). It is not hateful to say this; the most loving thing I can say is "you need to get out of danger NOW."

If you are asking if I think you are a non-Christian, I don't know anything about you other than your avatar/icon picture.

If you are asking if atheists/"secular humanists" have any basis of morality, everything that I have read from them either bases their 'moral code' on "what I believe is right" (which is different for every person and can change like the wind) or "what science says" (which once said that the earth was flat, the sun revolved around the earth, and that women or blacks were inferior to white men). If they have any other basis for their morality, an objective basis, I have yet to read it.

It is true that morality is changing for non Christians. Look at the homosexual issue and the abortion issue. Both are horrible sins, but now in the"new morality" what is horrid is now considered okay. Look at cloning, that is trying to play God, what arrogance on the part of man. Also one very basic truth, Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me" That means if you don't believe in and trust in Jesus, you aren't going toheaven. That's not being hard-headed, exclusive, or narrow minded. It's a fact that Jesus is the ONLY road to heaven. God bless............

well sadly there´s not a true and clear "greater good" either you ar a believer or not, the basis are there always no to kill, steal, lie ... for non believers this are enforced by law and human rights.
for believers they are set on stone literrally but there are grey areas, anyway why don´t christian nowadays follow moisianics laws if the God is the same; anyone may be telling Jesus invalidated those and he will be right so then why are traditions and judgement so different amog the many churches (and so different along times) that believe In our saviour... there´s a grey area and although the path is only one (for believer the door is narrow)is easy to be misguided. This narrow door which is the Christ path is the only one for salvation any christian can tell you that, so if they doubt you´re (or themselves) in it they will tell you you will not be saved just by doing what you think is right.}
morality changes as humankind grows either by Gods design or by our own adaptation and survival

That would depend on ones age.

Do you hold the same views of the world as you did say 10 years ago, or 20. Or when you were 8 years old?

Morality changes with age, and what we learn to be truth, I would agree with that. I think you are taking it a bit more drastically than intended.

50 years ago, if you polled Americans about gay/lesbian and if it should be tolerated, what would they have said? NO

Today, I would suppose half or more, would say yes, or have sympathy for them in some form nonexistent 50 years ago.

What changes the view of society? Press to a degree, education to a greater degree, and just their own personal belief influenced by various different factors.

So, to nutshell it, I would agree that people's morals change with the times. Why does that have to be a bad thing?

You'd be surprised how many Christians have never read the Bible. I HAVE NEVER READ THE WHOLE OLD TESTAMENT - I couldn't take it! But the New Testament I made it through. Then there's interpreting what you read in several translations.

People take it on the authority of people who supposedly know, priests - just like doctors, lawyers, mechanics, etc.

I just try to do what I think is right without hurting anyone else.

But the Bible does specifically say, "do not worry about who goes to Heaven and who does not" - so I'm sure there's even more to it than what is written.

No. I dont believe morality is largely some thing depending in a idea in God, Christ or faith. i imagine morality is replacing, yet that i think is human nature. shall we evaluate as an ethical homosexuality. they have continuously been round, even long in the past in the Bible. Homosexuality isn't an ethical decline. ought to our acceptance of it further and extra as a society be an ethical decline? No, as a remember of truth, bu accepting it as a prepare, we would remove hatred and intolerance, just about transforming into better moral creatures. no longer some thing, be it homicide, intolerance, persecution, although, is a sparkling element. we've continuously had immorality. Take the argument one step better. ought to Christians themselves no longer be contributing to immorality, by ability of the straightforward stance some carry so effective adverse to issues? ok, coming down from the cleansing soap container. the idea books like those are making their hands into others who take it as truth with out question, isn't some thing new. about 0.5 of Christians (and that i'm being way conservative) are those that take their personal faith they were taught, or got here across, and ask no questions of it, so can it suprise you that in case you provide a e book like that to at least one of them they're going to believe what it says, no questions requested?

A true Christian who believes in a loving and merciful God wouldn't try to find ways of limiting God's mercy by saying who is going to Hell or not. A true Christian would not judge their fellow man because that's God's job. There are many good people out there who do good things for others who aren't Christian and I don't think their lack of faith makes them bad or makes them absent of morality.

A lot of people believe that. They will scream that all of us Non's are immoral and horrible people because only their God has given these laws to keep us in check. Oddly enough, people lived quite happily and morally BEFORE the Laws were even given to Moses. So, in the end, they really only make themselves look foolish.

If someone has not accepted Jesus as their Saviour they are going to hell, except for small children who are not old enough to make that decision. That is what I believe. Someone can be moral all their lives and not accept Jesus...that person is going to hell.
