The Bible does not talk about the Earth being spherical, but it is described as a circle--a circle is flat. Read some books about the cultures that existed during that period, and you will understand what they believed regarding the cosmos. To them, the sky was a big dome overhead, with all the heavenly bodies embedded in it. This is why there is a story about the moon and sun standing still in the sky--the ancients believed that God could simply move them around at will, for they had no concept at all of the solar system and how it worked.
In Genesis, the earth is created first and then the rest of the sky forms around it. Why? Because, to the ancients, the universe was Earth-centered, not sun-centered. Everything they could see appeared to revolve around the earth, so this is what they believed. They knew nothing of the age of the earth, or the vastness of the universe, or the idea that the sun was simply one of billions of stars in a galaxy, which in turn was merely one of trillions of other galaxies. The Bible is NOT scientific, it is simply the collected myths, fables, folklore, and hero stories of a primitive people who believed primitive things.

What Is the Shape of the Earth?
In ancient times humans in general believed that the earth was flat. As early as the sixth century B.C.E., however, Greek philosopher Pythagoras theorized that the earth must be a sphere. Even so, two centuries before Pythagoras formulated his theory, the prophet Isaiah stated with extraordinary clarity and certainty: “There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth.” (Isaiah 40:22) The Hebrew word chugh here translated “circle” may be rendered “sphere.” Interestingly, only a spherical object appears as a circle from every angle. Far ahead of his time, then, the prophet Isaiah recorded a statement that is scientifically sound and free from ancient myths. Technically speaking, the earth is an oblate spheroid. It is slightly flattened at the poles.
The Babylonians, for example, believed that the universe was a box or a chamber with the earth as its floor. Vedic priests of India imagined that the earth was flat and that only one side of it was inhabited. A primitive tribe in Asia pictured the earth as a huge tea tray.
The Bible writer Isaiah avoided the common myths about the earth.
The idea of a spherical earth was not widely accepted until thousands of years after Isaiah’s day. Furthermore, Job 26:7—written more than 3,000 years ago—states that God is “hanging the earth upon nothing.” Says one Bible scholar: “How Job knew the truth, demonstrated by astronomy, that the earth hangs self-poised in empty space, is a question not easily solved by those who deny the inspiration of Holy Scripture.” Only in the 20th century has it been possible for humans to travel by airplane, and later into outer space and even to the moon, thus giving them a clear view of “the circle” of earth’s horizon.

Thats not true. In Job 26 and other scriptures it was implied that the earth was round and how it hanged in the universe. The description of it being flat was never implied in the Bible. There might be beliefs that were being thought at that time but it was not evident that the writers of the Bible believed them because they did not record them in the Bible.

And if the Bible was written in the terms that top scientist of today use, would anyone have understood it back then?
The Bible is meant more as a reference as to how to live a moral life, specifically in the New Testament. That being said, why should it concentrate on matters of Astrophysics.

"There is evidence that the spherical Earth was accepted by many Christians. For example, Emperor Theodosius II of the Byzantine Empire placed the globus cruciger (which depicts Earth as round) on his coins."
