I had a Yellow lab and I just loved him! I love the kind, funny, obedient, loyal personality of the labs, but unfortunately I can't have a big dog in my house now so I'm looking for a smaller dog, with the personality of a labrador retriver, and that doesn't need a lot of cosmetic maintenance, do you know a breed like this?

Chihuahua is under 30 pounds.

Yorkshire Terrier weighs around eight to nine pounds.

Golden Bassador has the body of a golden retriever, the legs of a basset hound, the coat of a Labrador retriever, the ears of a collie, and the black tongue of a chow, 55 pounds.

Pomeranian is small mabee 5-10 pounds, needs brushed alot

Sealyham Terrier the Sealyham breed is known for being the clowns and the couch potatoes of the terrier family. The Sealyham was bred in Wales as a badger and otter hunter. The dog is so good with children and other pets. The Sealyham was named after the mansion in Wales owned by the man who developed the breed, Captain John Edwardes. It is believed that he used the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, the Cheshire terrier, the Dandie Dinmont, the Wire Fox terrier, and the West Highland terrier.

Well, Jack Russell terriers are very funny, extremely smart, but aren't like the lab in the fact that they are pretty active and can sometimes be stubborn. As far as maintenance, the coat is short and they don't shed much at all. I have a rat terrier, a close cousin, and a bit bigger (30 lbs). She is REALLY smart for a 3 yr old dog. She understands about 100 words and she's a great apartment dog.

Instead of looking for a designer dog and putting money into breeder's pockets, go to your local animal shelter. you will find many different types of dogs there that are in desperate need of a home. The people at the shelter are good at determining the breeds/mixes of the dogs and can tell you if the dog will be large or small. A shelter dog is the best way to go from all perspectives. I should know, I have two.

If you insist on a pure bred dog, the person who mentioned Boston Terriers and Pugs is right on the money. They are high energy, low maintenenece; lip gloss and mascara are optional.

Boston Terriers & Pugs are fun & have a big dog personality! I noticed someone answered Jack Russel, great dogs. However, they are HIGH energy & sometimes difficult to train. Maybe you can check out The encyclopedia of dog breeds before deciding. It has nearly 400 breeds to choose from. It can also help you on training, grooming, personality, etc. for each breed.

Well it's not actually a breed.. But a border collie/lab mix are super awesome! Mine is 12 and is still healthy and active.. She is extremely smart, they are super easy to train as well..

BUT if that is bigger than you want.. I recommend a cockapoo.. They are the greatest! Check my 360 page I have a ton of pictures in my album of mine. My male can just over 5 feet in the air. He loves to play fetch, ball etc..

Border collies are good breeds. They are about half the size of labs usually about 30-40 pounds.

A yorkie is a very small dog and they are alot of fun. I have a yorkie and he likes to play, he does some tricks, he makes us laugh, he is very kind, and he knows some commands like sit, stay, and laydown. A yorkie needs brushed everyday, and trimmed every so often, and bathed every couple of weeks.
