Both my kids were 4 months.
Start him out with putting just a very small amount of baby cereal in with his formula. As he gets accustomed to it and becomes more hungry, slowly add more. Do this until you achieve the amount of cereal that you want to be feeding you baby.

I started at about 4 months with all of mine. I found a sippy bottle from Toys R Us like a bottle with a nipple that has a hole big enough for the cereal to come out, so they just sucked it out. (The bottom was a piece that you could used to keep the cereal pushed up to the nipple to minimize air in their belly). It sort of looked like a chunky version of a Playtex bottle that uses the bags. It seemed to go a lot better than trying to battle with the spoon/cereal/spitting down their front approach.

I started feeding my babies cereal at different ages. They all tolerated the cereal at different ages. My youngest son, I started feeding him cereal at the age of three days old. Yes, I said three days old. He stayed hungry all the time and was constantly crying because of it. I made the cereal real milky and spoon fed it to him, and it stopped him from being hungry all the time and took car of most of his crying. Do what you think is best for your child. Only you will know.

Hopefully I can help you.
I put baby food in my daughter's milk to give her substance when she would not take the cereal. I used small amounts then gradually it was increased.
I started her on cereal about 4 months as well.

Both my daughter and grandson started at 5.5 months. Both pediatricians recommended 5-6 months to start. This worked out just fine for both of them.

i gave it to my daughter at 11 days old. not a lot, just a few flakes in her bottle mixed with formula. it was enough to satisfy her so she wasn't eating every hour. if your son isn't ready to be spoon fed, try putting it in his bottle. you may have to cut the nipple a little so that it will flow smoothly but not enough so that he chokes. good luck.
