I suppose Jim Caviezel was just trying to be a good guest, but don't you think after Jim Caviezel made all of that wine, that everyone got good and drunk? Why would the Son of God encourage drunkness?

Martin S - I'm not talking about this 'Heyseuss' fellow I keep hearing about. I'm talking about our Lord and Savior Jim Caviezel.

I really liked when Jim Caviezel walked across water when the Anchor Man was interviewing him at the Music Awards. I didn't believe in him until I saw that. I thought the Passion was fake.

I guess this whole Jim Caviezel thing is the latest cheap-chic method for dismissing Jesus as the son of God. If you call me by a silly name I don't recognize, it doesn't affect me, just makes you sound stupid!
Anyway, my unlearned friend, the changing of water to wine was his first miracle, it had nothing to do with being a good guest or drunkenness. It is representative of him being The Vine (Jn.15). He, himself, was "the toast and the celebration".
I started to explain the text of John 2 here, but I don't think any of you care that much. Just leave the bible and things of meaning to those of us who care, know what we are doing, and are doing the work of the ministry. If and when you are truly ready to learn, maybe someone will be available to help you. But, you will need to find some humility.

I suppose the question is actually, "Why did Jesus turn water into wine, as in John 2?"

The Greek word translated wine (oinos) refers to any product of the grape, and is used for grapes, raisins, fermented wine, vinegar, and grape juice.

In John 2:10, the 'governor of the feast' remarked how this was better 'grape product' than what had been served before. People of that time had very little sweet refreshment, and grape juice was valued more highly than 'sour wine,' which had fermented. The sweeter was normally served early in the feast, when people's taste buds were more sensitive, and the sour wine was served later. We know that Jesus did not serve fermented wine, which would have been sinful (Habbakuk 2:15; Hebrews 4:15), but rather served refreshing, non-alcoholic grape juice, or 'new wine.'

umm just for clarification, Jim Caviezel is not the son of God. and Jesus was trying to be a good guest, his mother asked him to help out and make more wine so they would not have to ask the guests to go home early

During the time period that that movie depicts people generally did not have clean drinking water and rarely drank it. The beverage most people drank was wine. But not wine as we know it today. The alcohol content was very low, just enough to purify it. The only clean source of water was a spring if you could find one.

In the book of John where that miracle is written about John refers to them as "signs" and not miracles. Each one has a spiritual message for the discerning reader.

When Jesus turned water into wine He was demonstrating how when God comes into a person's life even the ordinary things that we usually take for granted can become a source of joy and celebration as we recognize God's gracious provision for our lives.

As to people who don't exercise moderation and thanksgiving for the gracious provision of our heavenly Father, that's on them, not on Him.
