This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen. It's an explanation other people will understand.
A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said:
"I don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.
"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving a God who would allow all of these things."
The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.
Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and un-kept.
The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber:
"You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."
"Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me."
"Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."
The End! I believe in God 100% thanx for listening!

For one thing...Noreen, God and Allah are not the same! There is only one God, and it isn't Allah.
Secondly, there is evidence of a higher being, namely the Lord God Almighty, through creation. For sure, there are many who want to contradict or even compromise that truth with evolution. *sighs* What people will do to get God out of their lives!
Lastly, I do believe in God, but more than "believing," I serve and live for Him. As someone had already pointed out, even the demons believe in God and tremble. So there must be more than just a belief, but an action according to that believe or what you say you believe that follows.
Sorry if you don't understand this...I feel as though I was just rambling...^_^

i believe in a god , maybe not the same one or beliefs you have . something had to start the universe , there is some sort of creater , i just think the conventional god is to easy of an answer and the truth is out there somewhere and we will never know the entire truth . i also believe you should believe in whatever makes you happy . i don't think it is right for a religion to divide people into good and bad if they don't believe a certain thing , the whole point of life is to find whatever makes you happy

I do not believe in deities.
SImply put, there is no evidence of their existence and they cannot be proven logically. Combine this fact with Occam's Razor and you have the standard position of an Agnostic Atheist.
However, I am inclined to agree with other Atheists that the omnis proposed for most Gods are incoherent in their very nature and could disprove the existence of deities.

Believing in God and doing what are his commandments are very different things. Even the demons believes in God (James 2:19)
How do you act on that belief?
Those that do not believe are usually without true knowledge but much of christendoms apostasy has done that itself.

Well, let's see, god is supposedly and all powerful all knowing deity who can be everywhere at once... why would anyone need to come to him, he should go to them and stop being lazy. Barbers are not all powerful all knowing deities capable of being everywhere at once so that is a retarded comparison.
If you believe in God, the Muslims and Hindus and Buddhists and Taoists and Confucionists and so on and so on, say you're going to hell/being reincarnated/etc. etc.
If you believe in Allah, the Christians and the rest say you're going to hell/etc. et c.
If you believe in the Hindu gods, the rest say you're going to hell.
If you believe in Buddha everyone else says you're going to hell.
No matter what you believe, some how, you're going to hell. This is just a moronic concept and you all should be ashamed for letting yourself be convinced there is such a place.

I believe one can not prove that G-d exists, but that is why G-d is so great. If we had proof there would be no point in believing. Faith is the belief in something when there is no proof. This is why I really get upset at people who try to prove these things. Because if they do find proof, There will be no faith anymore.

I am agnostic because something happened to me when I was unconcscious after attempting suicide during a schizophrenic episode. I am not sure what happened. It is also very difficult for me to understand how I can be schizophrenic but men who wrote the books of the bible and heard voices were not. I think perhaps they needed an anti-psychotic. If not, then I need to write a book for the bible based on my epiphany.
