I am thinking about a career as an Anesthesiologist Assistant, and I know I am hepatitis B positive without any symptoms. I do not know where I got it from.

i work in the healthcare field, and to the best of my knowledge, an employer can ask you to take a physical. however, i am pretty sure there would not be any blood testing. ive never encountered one. regardless, you are protected by federal law against discrimination of any kind in employment, so if they did find out, and terminated you, or used that as an excuse to hire you in the first place, youve got yourself one hell of a case if you choose to sue.

What brattydoll said is incorrect. You CAN be prevented from working in a health field related job if you are positive for blood born disease. HIV, Hep B and C will all keep you from working in a health related job. There is no lawsuit, this law was passed back in the '80s due to the scare of AIDS when it was first found.

You will probably need to check at places local to you but according to this university's requirements, this is what is required in regards to hepatitis B:

hepatitis B
Initial Immunization Requirement -documentation of previous immunization or 3-dose vaccination

Follow-up and alternatives-serology (Declination forms will be available to students for whom the immunizations are contraindicated.)

-Surveillance and exposure requirements- follow protocol for hepatitis B exposure
