A person who is baptised has received the Holy Spirit on the day he/she was baptised.
However, it is possible to ask the Holy Spirit to come to visit you in a new way later on. You must pray that you receive Him. Or you could ask some friends to pray for you so that you receive Him.
The Holy Spirit gives different gifts to different people (1 Corinthians, chapter 12). It is not important what type of gift you receive (speaking in tongues, prophety, etc). The most important is Charity (1 Corinthians 13).
You will know that you received the Holy Spirit by its fruits (Galatians 5,22-23) :
"the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."
Most people will only notice an inner change (sometimes only after a few days or months) but will not feel anything at the time they receive the Holy Spirit. A minority of people will feel a warmth, a presence. This depends on the ways of God.
If you read 1 Kings 19,9-18 : God is not in the fire, not in the earthquake, but in the "tiny whispering sound".

For the first part of your question, I can only give you my own response. For me, when I accepted Jesus as my Savior and lord, I felt a weight being lifted and some peace. The Holy Spirit is referred to as the Comforter and the Holy Spirit also guides you through your life (similar to your consciences).
I believe that you do not get a manifestation as during Pentecost. The speaking in tongues and tongues of fire were needed to communicate to the thousands of people there that did not speak the same language as the apostles. Speaking in tongues is used to educate others, not as a look-at-me gift. Acts 2:12-13 shows that the people were confused, but Peter used the opportunity to explain what happened and the gospel of Christ in Acts 2:14-39.
Your acceptance of Christ as your savior requires faith, and it is that faith that allows you to know the Holy Spirit.
Jesus stated in John 14:15 that "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you."

It is very hard to understand and describe what it feels like to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I just always felt,, peaceful.
Obviously, speaking tongues would be a great example of the way it feels. Just be careful about that. I've gone to churches and hear people babbling incoherently and they say they are speaking in tongues. That is not speaking in tongues. Speaking in tongues means you suddenly know a different language that you've never spoken before so that you can go out to those people who speak that language and tell them about Jesus and what he did.
I think they were gifted with the ability to speak in tongues so that they can reach people who don't speak just Aramaic or the other major languages in their area.

reliable questions. Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost ability a similar element. The Holy Spirit is there once you repent of your sins & ask Jesus to develop into Lord of your existence & you ask the Holy Spirit in. i'm no longer effective the way you tell if a Christian is full of the Holy Spirit except in the adventure that they are following the Lord (in the adventure that they have the culmination of the spirit). The Holy Spirit does no longer dictate what Christians do, it facilitates them make proper selections, the alternative although continues to be the persons (it really is why sin nevertheless occurs) The Holy Spirit doesnt tell human beings to remodel to different religions. The writers of the Gospels (or any area of the Bible) didnt make mistakes because God made the universe and all it quite is in it and made effective that His be conscious replaced into properly proper. i imagine many do ask which version of the Bible to study, many variations are properly proper, merely diverse wordings. i'm effective I didnt get all of your questions responded yet i desire this facilitates some :)

You must try the Spirit has the Bible says, if it does not speak from the Bible or against it then it is not a spirit from God but an evil spirit. You should pray and study your Bible more that is the true word of God and by studying the holy spirit will reveal all truth to you.

cause Christ told them to wait in the room and wait for the promise of my father which they heard him speak for john baptized with water but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. so when the Holy Sprit guides you into doing something you will know that you know that you know is brought on by God and you will say things you know are not your thoughts.

Stand in front of the bathroom mirror and say "Holy Spirit" 5 times. If he's in there, you'll see him leaking out of your ears! Good luck!
