My mom is going to go to surgery tom. and she needs the general anesthesia, where you fall asleep completely. And the doctors, and stuff said it's o.k. at least, they said the surgery is only about 10-20 minutes. and recovery, is in the recovery room for about 1.5 hours. she's worried sick, i think. she's never smoked, and rarely drinks. about 2 times a year... and she doesn't have diabetes, rarely takes medication. she's allergic to aspirin though...which is o.k. she's not obese. pleez help.

Coming from someone who has had multiple surgeries of various kinds with both local and general anesthesia; I would tell her not to worry about it. Provided the doctors and staff are licensed and it's a reputable hospital or surgery center there's nothing to worry about. If this is her first time having surgery they will watch her closely to gage her reactions to the anesthesia, should she show signs of an allergic reaction they can pull her out really fast. However the possibilities of having a reaction to anesthesia these day's with the way modern medicine keeps improving and updating and upgrading not only the machines but the medicines used having a reaction of any kind would be really rare.
They do several tests normally before a person has surgery. Usually put you on a treadmill and have you walk, jog and even run in place on it. They have electrodes attached to you gaging your heart and respiration rates. If you show no signs of stress they make note of it and your good to go. If you show signs of stress normally they will run other tests to find out the cause. It could be due to a cold, anxiety etc. Still tell your mom that going under with a general is really no big thing. She sounds healthy. They will ask her when prepping her for surgery if she has any allergies etc. so just tell her to lay back, take a DEEP breath and enjoy la la land for a bit. She will most likely feel dizzy, and a bit sick to her stomach after her first time but they watch you closely after your out and in recovery. Just let her know this, the RECOVERY ROOM is FREEZING COLD *lol* she will wake up shivering violently even though they will have her wrapped up in multiple warm ( and I do mean warm) blankets because of the anesthesia she will be cold cold. It's normal just like being a bit sick to your stomach after surgery too. They will ask her if she wants water or juice ( go for the juice *smile* it will help replenish sugars etc not to mention it tastes sooo good *LOL* ) and even if you feel up to nibbling on a few crackers. The whole reason the recovery takes so long is because everyone is different where anesthesia goes. Some come out faster than others, some get sick because of it, and some have no problems what so ever.
Give her a hug, tell her you love her and you will see her in a few hours when you go with her tomorrow. The more she worries the more she will be sick which is not good. If it's just a simple procedure and it sounds like it with it being only about 10 to 20 minutes long, really there's nothing to stress or worry about.

Don't worry, the amount of Anesthesia given is enough only for the duration of the surgery. Anesthesiologists are specialists that monitor during the entire surgery the vital signs and anesthesia levels. A respirator will breathe for her while she is out and it will be fine once it's all over.

What is Anaesthesia? Anaesthesia also spelled as Anesthesia is a medicine speciality related to providing patients with anaesthetic drugs in appropriate dosage in special scenarios such as surgeries. Anaesthesia is derived from Greek meaning “loss of sensation” and it is a reversible condition meaning after a while the patient will come out of the “loss of sensation” state.

you didnt specify her worries, has she ever had surgery before? she really has no reason to worry, the general anesthesia is ok. it does put her completely to sleep, recovery time is longer because she has to be watched over while she comes out of the anesthesia, if you all have concerns call your doctor and/or the hospital where she is to have surgery, you can talk to the or staff and tell them your concerns. you can also talk to the hospital chaplain! when your mom goes into surgery tomorrow the or staff will re-assure her that things will be ok..................good luck and god bless!
