It's a long flight. So I would have lots of things that they can keep themselves entertained with (including snacks since that seemed to be the first thing that airline companies have done away with). An inexpensive portable DVD player may be a good investment for this trip and in the future? Maybe you can split the cost with their dad.

The trip to Hawaii was long for me and I'm a lot older than them. I'm sure the flight attendants will be helpful.

My niece who is 9 has been fly since she was 6 from Hawai'i to Kentucky and back home to Hawai'i so she's had a lot of experience flying by herself to visit family in the states. I think you can also have a child companionship thingy through the airlines that they are flying. Just ask I know that's what my niece's mother does.

If they have never been to Hawaii, then they are in for the time of their lives. Hawaii is fantastic. I am on the Big Island a couple of times a year.
