That is your decision. I'm sorry to hear you felt brainwashed at your church - I've been to some of those. I'm Catholic, and for a time I wandered to other churches, 'bible-believing' churches with charismatic ministers who, after a service, would order me to leave "the romish lies" or some bigoted thoughts like that. I like Catholic Mass, there's the connection to Christ, there's the connection to the community, there's the worship and the Word.

A wise man once said: "Walking into a church makes you a Christian as much as walking into a garage makes you a car."
Regular "church-going" is a characteristic of a person who is a Christian. A person does not become a Christian by going to church, but by repenting of their sin, leaving their old life behind, and living with Jesus as their Lord.
Nevertheless, I do think that "church" is important. I use the word "church" to mean regular meeting of fellow christians, wherever that may be.
1) The Bible commands us to not give up meeting with one another - Hebrews 10:25
2) One of the purposes of meeting up is to encourage one another (Hebrews 10:25), what a great opportunity to serve your fellow Christians.
3) An example was set in Acts 2:42-47. Albeit they met with different regularity.
4) Meeting together is virtually assumed. 1 Corinthians 11:34; 16:1-2; Acts 5:41.
5) Its possible that your church is not a really good one. If you think you are being brainwashed, you may wish to go to a church that teaches you to be analytical about reading the Bible rather than being given the "company line."
6) Being a Christian is characterised by a relationship with God and Jesus. However, believers in the New Testament were never described as being freelance Christians, doing their own thing in private. The concept of "fellowship" and "partnership" is crucial to the growth, if not sustenance, of a Christian.
7) Not going to church is often what some people describe to me as being a part of their "private faith", being "just between God and me." My challenge would be, is a "private faith" going to be the faith that makes disciples of all nations? (Matthew 28:19)
8) Another wise man once said: "Being a Christian is like being a hot coal in a fire, the hot coals keep the whole lot hot, take the hot coal out, and it will soon go cold." If you are serious about keeping your relationship with Jesus on track, don't underestimate the importance of meeting up with other Christians.

I had been were you are for many years. I hated going to church because I felt people looked down on me if I wasn't in the "IN" crowd. It seemed hard to even move your way into a group to make friends. Its true that you don't have to go to church to have a relationship (not just believing) with Jesus/God. The thing is, that God formed the church so that his children could have fellowship with one another. More important, we, as Christians, are the church. Read Below:
The true church is composed of all those individuals who have appropriately committed their lives to Jesus Christ and have consequently received the Holy Spirit. [Acts 2:38; Ephesians 1:13-14; Ephesians 2:11-22; 1 Peter 2:4-10]
The mission of the true church is to go into the whole world to lead all who are willing into a mature relationship with Jesus Christ through the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit. [Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 9:23-26; Acts 2:37-47; 1 Peter 4:10-11]
The mature church of Jesus Christ is characterized by an intimate relationship with God, resulting in conformity to God's character, perspectives and values as well as a manifestation of God's truth, love and power that impacts the world. [Matthew 22:37-38; Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:11-15; Acts 2:37-47; 1 Peter 1:15-16]
Maybe you just haven't found a church that follows the purpose of a church. I finally found one, and I am very happy with it. It is a non-denominational church. My church even eliminated the passing of the plate, as it made some embarrassed or uncomfortable. Instead they have tithe boxes for you to drop off any contributions. Keep looking. The church has a lot to offer, and when you offer your experiences and help to another it is a wonderful thing as well.
I understand how you feel though, alot of churches are caught up in things that are uncomfortable, but not all of them!
God Bless you and may you continue to know him.

I couldn't agree more ! I use to go to church on a regular basis , but I felt like I saw more Hippocrates in the church than I saw on a regular basis . I am a Christan and do believe in the trinity . I have been baptized and feel that I am a true believer in the teachings of Jesus Christ . I feel no need to attend a church service to hear all the negative hell fire and damnation that is spewed from the pulpit . You can still worship God in your own way , The best way to love God is the way you live your life .

I don't go to church either ,i don't think we have to be part of an organised church that does not allow the people to use the gifts that god has given each one of us to use in the "body".
I get bored and am tied of the same old thing each sunday (or saturday)sing a few songs ,hear a message sing some more songs and go.I want to fellowship with Christians who don't call themselves any denomination just "Christian's".It would be good if we could be like the first church with huge outdoor gatherings and singing Jesus songs in the streets

NO.
You like ON-Line because it's too easy. If you don't agree, you simply avoid the answer.
Ignore the question.
or
totally justify your reasoning.
when you need God, sometime, and he may not be there........
maybe he thinks he doesn't need to be.
He feels like He can just somehow help you without actually, having to do a fellowship procedure.according to his own words.
I wouldn't sweat it. That's why you have been blessed so much now. why change. you have no problems, in life. why change a good thing.
church only strengthens faith and love towards God.
every answer you got in here . said what? They agree with you, because they are just like you.
I see cussing, hate, no love, fights, degrading God 24/7 here.
you keep this joke forum as your guidance towards Christ.
I see you and others have been spiritually motivated and have yahoo answers really in check.
Tithing is a spiritual basic principal. you send yahoo a check every week. right?
Dream on, think whatever you wish. this question was only to see, how many people would agree with you, so you could feel less guilty.
.God Bless you.
GET REAL. that's why everyone does it.
It's takes BIG Zzz to go hear truth, a be mature enough to accept it.

I think that it's fine and dandy. You saying that you can have a relationship with God and Jesus without being involved with a church says alot about you. Very smart person!
Personally, I think that if you live your life right then you don't need to go to church. Going to church does't instantly make you a Christian, just like going into a garage does not instantly make you a car.

Your not asking a question, See you stated you can have a relationship with them. I have tried ministering and found out I do better just spiritually counseling. church is not for everybody. But a relationship with God is. If you live a morally good life one should not judge if you go to church because your naturally practicing the teachings of Christ..My Advise live by the commandments and you'll find you will be alright. And NEVER...NEVER FORGET TO KEEP ON PRAYING.....Rev.Malachi

I think you may have learned that church isn't a place you go ... Jesus never told people to "go to church" .. he more preached that the world is church and you are either in or out. I am not a christian and have very little respect for the entire organized religious scene as I think they have missed the point. A truly spiritual person doesn't go to church because in their world they are never not "in church".

God's Church is more than just that building with that preacher inside. Live a good Christian life and see you in Heaven.
If you are Catholic, communion and reconciliation are 2 things which you need to seek elsewhere if you don't particularly like that Church you occasionally attend.
