Phil quit playing like he had been and started playing like he used to. Phil used to be the most aggressive player on tour, but has toned it down a bit and been playing smarter until Sunday. It isn't his caddy's fault at all, b/c even if he told him not to hit driver it ultimately comes down to Phil making the choice and he made a stupid decision that he admitted and I am sure he regrets. Just like life sometime or another we are all going to make a bad choice.

I really love the answer about Tin Cup!!! Didn't make 12 though! Really, give the guy a break, I think he's too positive thinking, that he can get it on on the second shot, and the third shot!! Obiously, his magically sand shot, which didn't go in as he thought. And, lastly, the 62 degree wage chip from the thick rough, that should have gone in.. What happened to meeeeeeeeee!! That's what he thought!! The french guy in the British open did worse!!!

He hardly hit any fairways with his driver that day, so why he took driver off the tee I don't know. We'll give him a mulligan on that, though. It was the second shot when he tried to be heroic that lost it for him. Every weekend hacker knows how it feels to hit a tree when you're trying to pull off the miracle shot. I think he was thinking about the headlines in the papers had he pulled it off -- he's ego-driven and it caught up with him (again) at the open.

He wasn't. He was trying to be heroic and pull off a miracle shot. His caddie should have broken his driver, given him a 3 iron then a pitching wedge, then a sand wedge, 2 putted and one by 1 shot.

I don't know I think he lost his mind or something. It can only be written up as a another choke for the old boy. Damn good golfer but needs to be more focused coming down the stretch.

he was trying to play the other players and stopped playing the course, trying to put pressure on Montgomerie on the 18th green by putting a big drive into play on 18 and get into his head.

I think that Phil's ego caused him to choke and blow the tournament.
