How else would they bathe themselves? Its not like they can just jump in the tub turn on the water and get a body poof and some gel.. (they lack the thumbs.... lol)

Two guys walking along side each other, and one of them spots a dog doing just this - licking themselves. So he turns to the other guy and says "Wow, I wish I could do that!" The other man says "You probably can, you just have to pet him real nice first."

Licking themselves is part of their grooming habits. Sometimes if they have a small cut they will lick that too to clean it.
