she was living with my friends while i was moving house. i havent heard of dog parks here and it sounds like a great idea. Thanks for all the answers. I'll go with my gut and keep her on the leash which extends 5 metres.

Only if it is an off leash park and has a fence around it. Most states have those kinds of parks and you must have them on a leash at other parks (non doggy parks)...I personally would never let my dog off leash unless I it was trained to come when I call it.

What do you mean you just got her back 3 months ago? Where was she?

There is probably a leash law in your park. Since most have them, a good way of telling is if its a chain link fenced 'dog park'. Usually you are able to let your dog loose to play in this sort of park.

I would say that if she has run away from you before, or shows signs that she wouldnt return to you, DONT LET HER LOOSE. Dogs have to know their place in the pack before they will come when called. Especially if its a new and exciting environment. Your best bet is to make friends with someone who has a fenced yard, so she can play in a contained area.

If you do you are taking a huge risk, even some of the best trained dogs can get a mind of their own and run off. If you love your dog and want it to stay around a while I would leave it on the leash.

I would not advise letting your dog off her leash. For one, your city may have a leash law which could result in a fine if you take her leash off. Second, you said you had fears of her running away. Better safe than sorry.

Is the park a dog park? Is it fensed in? I wouldn't advise letting her off if she's run away before. What I would do is research parks in your area that are meant specifically for dogs.. They will be fensed in and you will be able to legally let your pooch of leash. In my area we have a dog park and a dog beach, both are off leash areas and safe to let them roam.

(Tip: When taking your gal to a dog park I would deffinatly make sure she's up to date on all of her shots.. If she's not spayed, DO NOT go while she's in heat. and even when she's not in heat, be wary of unneutered males... She doesn't have to be in season to get pregnant.....)

if it's fenced in your dog is nice and will stay near you fine. if your dog never get out that much and doesn't run free it could be a easy way for excercise but a hassle for you to get back. is your dog real compatable with you and spend a lot of time together if you are he would probably stay with you but you never know. make sure your dog has the two factors above and make sure it is legal then try one time. it cant hurt... too much. just kidding!

well if you are afraid of her running away you might try testing her in a small area where you can catch her easily if she does good then don't worry but if not work with her some more and teach her to stay and reward her when she obeys or you could try obediance classes if you do try to talk to the trainer first to explain your needs good luck
