of course everyones vote matters. Unfortunately, about 50% or more of the registered voters won't bother to get off their lazy bums to cast their ballot.

Not really. It's sad, and a bit cynical to say. When we vote for the president, it's actually voting for his representatives in the electoral congress. (not congress like you may think) these people will cast their vote. But there's no law that says they have to vote for the candidate they're sent there for. This is after the electoral system determines how the electoral votes for your area will go. If there's more votes for one candidate, all electoral votes go to him. Your vote is therefore only valid if you happened to vote for the same guy as most others.

'its not the vote that counts, its who counts the vote'. but yes, the vote counts. nobody wants to vote for a 3rd party because they think its useless but if one gets 1mil votes, they are in the debates & become a real player for the 'wasted vote' crowd. its very easy & very possible to have more choices. for a vote to really count it must be used on all levels of government & all candidates' representation scrutinized.
