The best way is save about $4,000 and use it for a down payment on a car usually selling for $19,000
Make all your payments on time at least 6 months. No late payments and you'll have credit offers coming out your ears within a year
Don't accept more than 3 credit cards and always pay the balance off at the end of the month. Don't get caught in the credit trap or you'll ruin the next ten years of your life.Once you get bad credit its very hard and long to fix it.
I KNOW FIRST HAND-

Start by applying for a gasoline or department store credit card. Use it and pay off your balance in full every month. You will slowly build your credit. They key is to prove that you are worthy of credit by being responsible. Most companies will extend you a small amount of credit just to see if you hang yourself. I started this way and now my credit is fantastic. I have a very high credit score and can purchase anything that I need. Just remember a credit card is a short term loan. Don't buy anything with the card unless you know you have or will have the money to pay for it. Mess up this first chance and you will be hard pressed to get another. Good luck to you.

When I was new in the US and had to build my credit, here were the steps I did:
1. Apply for a store card. Macy's approved me, but JC Penny did not (I never shopped at a JC Penny store ever again). Gap also gave me a card.
2. Apply for a credit card with your bank. Most banks carry their own credit cards, e.g. Bank of America. Since you are a depositor in the bank, request them for a credit card. They are more likely to approve you.
3. Go to Costco, become a member and apply for American Express card.
You can also buy a car -- but expect to be slapped with ridiculously high interest rates. I applied for a car loan and I got approved but at 15% interest rate. A friend, who's also an immigrant, got a car loan for 21% interest rate -- all because we did not have any credit history.
Then wait. In about a year, you can start applying to other credit cards and you can start getting better rates (if you pay your bills on time).
It's not easy being new to a country and finding that no one would give you credit because you have no credit history, yet you can't build credit history because no one would give you credit.

start paying on a utility bill every month and on time...of -course you will ahve to pay so much down since you have no credit but that will be refunded after 6 months or a year,,,after about a year you'll be well on your way to having good credit if you have a job for a year you can also get a car easy which will build your credit faster... pay the bill on time every month and don't pay the loans off to quickly.. best of luck ...stay away from credit cards
