It is viewed as different because of the sabbath - church on Saturday and the original preparation of the second coming that sometimes goes against the grain of mainstream thinking. The dietary goals may be interpreted as rituals instead of following the guidelines of the bible. Science hasshown in the last 30 years that the nutritional guidelines by SDA are sound advice to lower cholesterol and extend life.

Because most people do not know what they really teach and believe, but instead they go with rumors and lies. For example, some people would say that an SDA can't eat meat, but that is incorrect - they can only eat clean meats. Others would say that they worship Ellen White, but that would only prove that they have never read a word that she has written. Still others claim that they keep the commandments to be saved, but it is because they are saved that they keep them. Another example would be water baptism; some would say that SDA's say it is required for salvation, but then an SDA would point to the thief on the cross (who was not baptized, but was saved).

Other people place the cult label on the Adventist Church because they worship on the seventh day of the week. This is odd however, because it is what Jesus did.

So to sum up, it is because of ignorance, rumors, lies, and a lack of understanding.

The world always viewed God's people in a negative light, if you put the beliefs of the SDA Church to the test all match up to the Bible, see link to their fundamental beliefs. They worship on the Sabbath (Saturday) which the world views as irrelevant today but it is Biblical and still binding today since it is apart of the ten commandments of God. Moses law was nailed to the cross not God's law. They also preach on diet and avoiding meat - but this also is Biblical since the original diet of man did not include meat and even doctors in the world now are agreeing that Seventh Day Adventist are some of the longest living individuals in the world. All in all, they are not a cult but because truth is separate from what the world believes it will be hated and ridiculed since it will offend many. But I hope you will look at the beliefs and teachings and see if they match up to the Bible.

I doubt seriously that everyone would perceive the Seventh Day Adventists as a cult. Typically, mainstream fundamentalist Christian groups tend to think that any religious groups that are very different from theirs (even Christian ones) are cults. However, a secular person or group would typically define a cult as being a usually small religious group that is centered around a charismatic person or persons and that uses brainwashing to entice and keep its members and isolates its members from the outside. Examples of this would include the Branch Davidians and Heaven's Gate. Of course, the Seventh Day Adventist Church doesn't fit this description.

As a former Seventh Day Adventist I can say without a doubt in my mind they are a cult. I've been to their churches & they act like they are better than everyone else. They verballky & mentally assault you & they will phycally assault you too! Ellen G White was in fact a false prophet she claimed that Jesus would return in 1844. They also forbid the use of certian meats beer wine I've even seen them worship the church building it's self.

I was interested in Seventh Day Adventist church until I heard that they forbid their members from eating meat, drinking milk and so forth. I read the Bible and I do and follow the Bible and the Bible says people should prevent others from eating some food, so to me that's a cult. And SDAC says it's a sin if you eat meat or drink milk - THAT'S WRONG.

For one, they do not observe all or most of the Bible. For Adventist-ism is based on the writings of Ellen G. White, which conflict with with the Bible. For where the Bible does not support Adventist ism , Adventist conclude that those doctrines from the Bible, are not Biblical.

One of the main reasons is that they require baptism for salvation. Also they are not allowed to eat meat of any kind. And it is a sin not to worship on Saturday. Other than that there are super nice people.

It might have something to do with their guru, Ellen G. White, whose "visions" made up the SDA dogma, and it seems that many folks were coerced into following her beliefs.
