Not in Bible. I thought the Catholics stopped that practice on the 60's? Maybe some still do? They are not consistent from place to place-but who else is.

Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays during the Lent season 40 days from Easter because they are fasting like Christ did 40 days (in the desert) before he died on the cross. That is the reason why people say they gave up .... for lent. They usually give up something they really enjoy so that they can have an idea of what it was like for Christ to suffer without for that period of time. If there is a monetary value attached they save that money and give it to the church for the poor who do suffer on a continual basis. And actually, the old way was to not eat at all on Good Friday. To fast the entire day and then go to mass. After Mass they eat.

All 1.1 billion Catholics in the world fast and pray for the 40 days before Easter every year. This is a special time of conversion and repentance.

On Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lent (including Good Friday), as part of that fast, we do not eat meat.

Jews and Christians have used times of fasting and prayer to prepare them big events.

Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days in the desert before starting his public ministry.

With love in Christ.

Catholics call it not Easter but Good Friday. As for not eating meat, that may be changing today, except for the diehard catholics.

I always eat hotdogs on Fridays...and I'm Catholic...and its called Good Friday(check the calendar)...we don't eat meat on that day(14 years and above) because its our way of sacrificing and abstaning from all the pleasure in the world and repent for our sins in the memory of the last day the Lord has lived...

Mark 2:18-20 Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, "How is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?"
Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast.
