It's simple Jane, limit fat intake. But there are certain fats that are good, they are Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats. They help with your internal glands.

But the best way to probably answer your question is to tell you what a boxer SHOULD eat.

Being a nephew of a former boxing trainer I know boxer's should consume plenty of carbs. Expecially complex carbs like yams.

Carbohydrates are the optimal source of energy for anaerobic events such as boxing. You will need complex carbohydrates for energy throughout an intense training cycle. A good rule of thumb is to eat based on what you plan to do in the next few hours. For example, if you plan to workout at 4PM, it is a good idea to get some carbohydrates in your system at around 1PM. You will use these foods as energy throughout the workout.

"But aren't carbs fattening?" you may ponder...

Carbohydrates have been given a bad name in recent years. Many so-called experts claim carbohydrates cause weight gain. This is not true. Weight gain is caused by an increase in calories, accompanied by a decrease in physical activity. For example, do not eat a meal high in carbohydrates before you go to bed, since you will not burn these calories while you dream the night away. You must also choose the proper carbohydrates. Stay away from processed foods such as those derived from white flour (ex. white bread). Choose natural foods instead. Examples include yams, oatmeal, whole-wheat grain, fruits, and beans.

Also Jane, it's highly important to consume protein! But you should already know that, the boxing enthusiast that you are.

Something with a high sodium content, worry of possible cramps. Anything heavy on the metabolism is going have an effect on the body. Processed foods and an illbalanced diet would make any human being even boxers unfit to successfully complete a task.

eh, this is easy.. I'm a vegetarian myself (53/F) and I run 5 miles daily. I think everyone knows the best/worse foods to eat (but hell, it's too much trouble to stick to it, eh? lol) I like sugars (I eat chocolate chips.. my vice.) I think professional athletes lean towards a high protein diet (my husband's a body builder, he told me so..lol) He likes fish and chicken and eats little red meat. Boxers can not break training by smoking & drinking (skip alchohol is next on my list... worse thing someone can do is 'imbibe.') A lotta meat fat would make him 'sluggish..' You get those in a lot of items you wouldn't suspect.. (bad oil) Well, hell all this made me hungry for some of those chocolate chips, honey.. (later...... melancholia)

Soda. Avoid all soda sweetened with refined sugars. A typical can of pop has about 9 teaspoons of sugar. Sugar, especially when introduced into the body in liguid form spikes the insulin rates and takes your body out of the optimum metabolic state necessary for growth in vertical jumping.

Juices. Avoid all fruit juices with one exception. Fruit juices can be consumed within one hour of training or playing intensely as long as you consume a protein with the juice.

Doughnuts. The worst combination of bad carbohydrates mixed with bad fats. Additionally, you get mega doses of chemicals which act as preservatives. Avoid doughnuts at all costs.

Breakfast Cereals. Sugar loaded junk with fantastic marketing. Every day on television you're told which cereals to eat. It's a billion dollar business you should avoid like the plaque if you want to jump higher.

Chips. Like doughnuts, you get the worst of both possible worlds. High glycemic carbohydrates mixed with killer saturated fats that take you out of the metabolic growth zone so fast it'll make your head spin.

Bacon. Full of saturated fats that when cooked yields all sorts of chemical reactions none of which are beneficial for the strength athlete.

Lunchmeats. More of the same, full of long chain fatty acids that will cripple your attempts to make strength gains. New labeling laws allow many deli type meats to be sold as low-fat when they really aren't.

Rice cakes. The absolute highest glycemic spike available. Actually worse than sugar with respect to elevating insulin levels. Another example of a "low fat" food with no actual health benefits.

Alcohol. The problem with alcohol is that it immediately goes into the blood stream as a simple sugar. Your body responds to it as if it's a food. It's utilized like a carbohydrate so your body thinks it's a source of fuel. Any food consumed with or after alcohol consumption is converted to tryglysorides and it is stored as fat. Too much alcohol also produces bad eicosanoids which reduce strength gains and impair vertical jumping.

Also do not eat Life cereal and Waffles because of the very high glycemic index.

Drink: Any Kind Of Soda

Eat, Pizza , Doughnuts, McDonald's, fried Chicken, If it goes through the napkin dont eat it always check it out

before a fight? Steak or something like it it with alot of protein but takes the body a long time to digest. in the old days it was food of choice, but now we know better. You need carbs, like pasta or something starchy like that. it will give you more energy and not bog ya down

Anything sweet or full of sugars. The energy burns away too quickly. The best prior to a fight is fresh vegetables and pasta
