Our enemy does not adhere to the Geneva Conventions. Why should we. THey get away with crap, but we have three soldiers charged with murder. What's wrong with this picture. Why do we always have to held to a higher standard, and be criticized by every other country on the planet?

We are held to a higher standard because we are better. "Better than what?" you might ask. I'd answer: everyone else.
We must adhere to the rules of war because we are the sort of people who adhere to the rules of war. We musn't lower or cheapen ourselves simply because the rest of the world is low and cheap.
We must always be better because we are better. We are Americans.

The Geneva convention doesn't apply to anyone in Gitmo. Terrorist groups and guerillas are not defined as combatants-thats why they have been in prison without a trial or council. Its a dangerous game to play it that way. Anytime you are in a foreign country (lets say somewhere in the middle east) they could arrest you for comments you make about them. What legal rights would you have then? An eye for an eye and all that. Our government won't come get you. This crap probably won't end.

Most of the people in Gitmo were rounded-up civilians. The people who were actually enemy combatants were taken to other facilities off of US soil.

Consider the case of many of people in Gitmo from Afghanistan. The US was paying bounties for information about Taliban or Al Qaida members. So, anyone with a score to settle or a grudge or just needing some cash told the US soldiers that so-and-so was a Taliban member and the US arrested him.
For instance, 2 men who were taken to Gitmo were newspaper reporters for Afghanistan's satire newspaper (just like the Onion). In one satirical article, they had jokingly said that a bounty for Bill Clinton was issued. The US interregators at Gitmo used extreme methods to question these two guys about that article for 2 or 3 years before finally releasing them back to Afghanistan last year. Someone they had pissed off told the US forces that they were supporters of the Taliban...

So, don't jump to such a position so quickly.

And, think about it, if our enemy behaves badly, do you want us to sink to that level?! The great thing about America is that we have a strong sense of law and justice.

Throwing the Constitution out the window in the name of defending freedom is the height of hypocrisy!

We have absolutely no proof that those people in Gitmo have anything to do with terrorism. And why it's time to start torturing and executing the prisoners,to show to Iraqis and to the entire world that Americans are no better than those terrorists from Iraq ?

We should follow the Geneva convention for our ancestors that fought to make this nation great. We are not great because of our money, we are great because we are bound by our D.O.I to create freedom where there is none. We were founded by enlightened men who were not perfect but who sought to create a government that in the "end" would not exploit and "lower" it's standards to the rest of the world.

Although there dream seems to be dying because are too many like yourself there are still enough "patriots" like myself to offset your type of thinking.

Murder is murder. Prisoner or a Marine. Murder is Murder....if it is that....that's why they get a trial. OH.......SORRY THE MARINES GET A TRIAL.....NOT THE PRISONERS.

in the State of California it takes an known of two a protracted time for a convicted guy or woman to recieve the dying penalty. In Texas i think of it is greater like 2 weeks. purely kidding. it is speedy although. I observed an exciting specific on capital punishment the place the in charge get carry of a butt lashing instead of reformatory time. An American pupil became convicted of spray portray vehicles. the US interviened and his sentence became decreased from 6 to 4 hits with a cane that cuts throughout the flesh on the buttocks and leaves lifelong scarring. That united states of america spent money we would have spent on prisons on faculties and different courses. What do you think of of that?

i agree with you (the person asking the Qustion) and it is in the Geneva Convention that any Gurrilla/ununiformed fight does no have the right to a military tribunal or any other formal treatment except to die by fireing squad or to be shot on sight. and it's appaling that people feel more sympathy for the terroists then for our soldiers i say we shoot all the terrorists that we have after a quick military tribunal.
