No. And here is why. Sex offenders are not all evil. Circumstances sometimes make normal folk into "sex offenders", not just rapist and pedophiles. Now, I believe that pedophiles and violent sex offenders should maybe wear something like a permanent bracelet. My reason for this answer is as such. I know a 19 year old "man" who hit it off with a girl while they were camping. The girl was driving her parents vehicle to and from the store in the local town, told him she was 16, and they made out over the week they were their. Well, the girls mother caught them, filed charges, and he didn't figure he had much to worry about since they had not had intercourse, and she was 16 right? Wrong, she was 15 years, 11 months and 2 days old when they went on this trip. The young man was made an example of in the local county where they were camping and served 3 years in Westerville Maximum Security Prison in Northern Indiana. And it was consentual groping, not rape or intercourse, yet a statutory rape conviction sits on his record for life, and he must register everywhere he lives for life, and I don't think he deserves that.

you ought to be arrested on a criminal replace yet counting on each and every person in contact - mothers and fathers, the police, the DA, and you 2 - it must be decreased to a misdemeanor intercourse offense. yet.... that should nonetheless positioned on on a intercourse criminal checklist and which will hang-out you for YEARS if no longer for all times. you will need an truly difficult time getting a job, getting an apartment, getting in college, etc. the advice to end having intercourse now could be valueless with the aid of fact the crime has already been committed. the main seems to be conserving her mom calm till she turns 18, this is under 365 days. locate out what mom needs and comply - she holds your life in her palms.

I guess you could if you wanted to shame a lot of parents. 90% of all sex offenders are family or someone close to the family; of that 90%....60% are parents.

Remember the book, "The Scarlet Letter"? I think we've become more civilized than that. There are different levels of sex offenses, for instance, an 18 yr old boy who has sex with a 14 yr old can be convicted of 3rd degree rape and registered as a sex offender. Would it really be fair to label him in public as such?

First and foremost, Ed please join our support group and let your family members know about it as well. I will be posting links in Sources. The one called Moral Outrage is completely up his alley. It deals with the cases like his.

Now, for your question. Absolutely NOT. No one should be marked at all. Or maybe you are satan and you plan on them being marked with 666? God is our one and only judge. God forgives all sins and God loves all his children, including the sex offenders, sexual predators, rapists and pedophiles. As Jesus said, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone."

Also, many rehabilitated former sex offenders are married and have children. You would be causing even MORE harrassment and ostracization for these children than they already receive.

What is going on in GA right now is a disgrace to this country. First, we have Genarlow Wilson, 17 years old convicted and in prison for a Romeo/Juliet relationship. As a matter of fact, the people got so upset about it that the legislature came up with a new law to protect the Romeo/Juliet cases. All but Genarlow Wilson. The legislatures make so many things retroactive in regards to sex offenders, but this one small gesture they refuse to do for this kid.

Also, in GA we have thousands of families that will have to move by July 1, 2006. I know of two families, that live in rural neighborhoods and their children are the only ones that ride the school bus that stops within the 1,000 feet. Yet these families, who have lived there for many years, own their own homes, were notified in June that they have until July 1, 2006 to move or the sex offender will likely serve 10 years in prison. Yet, at the same time, we have the elected officials and the Supreme Court telling us these laws are not punitive. Well, if they are not punitive, then what the heck is 10 years on prison?????? PUNISHMENT without due process of law!

In any case no, there do not need to be public markings to add more discrimination to offenders lifes

In Ohio, they are somewhat marked. There is a public database and letters are mailed by the sheriff to neighbors within a 5 mile radius when they move into a neigborhood. They cannot live within 1000 ft. of a school, church, daycare or playground.

no no no no no and only one reason is because as the laws are written now, if you pee in public and are caught they can stick that label on you. (indecent exposure) true sex offenders definitley need to be dealt with, their mind is a dangerous thing...but to publicly humiliate is not the answer, my belief.
