Calories in, calories out. Like Wayland Bill said, it doesn't matter when you eat. It's all just another myth.

They found no link between when the animals ate and whether or not they put on weight.
Speaking at a Society for Neuroscience meeting in New Orleans, the scientists said claims that eating late lead to weight gain may be "an urban myth".

Mainly because usually in the evening one is not doing really active activities that require food energy. Therefore, the food is going in, being converted to energy, and then just getting stored as potential energy (fat).
In order to have a restful sleep, one should have a small snack before bedtime of a balance between protein, carbohydrate and good fat. A big dinner has been found to be unnecessary, especially if one does the pre-bedtime snack.

When at rest your body's metabolism slows down, so you will be burning fewer calories. A large meal late in the day/evening, is usually followed by lethargy afterwards and so fewer of those calories are burned as fuel...which means they go through the body's other processes and there's an increased likelihood more of them will be stored as fat, than if the meal had been eaten earlier when the body was up and moving and burning more calories.

I agree with WaylandBill. Of late, I've read a lot of research that indicates eating at night does not contribute to weight gain.
The bottom line with weight gain is that if you eat more calories than you burn in a day, you'll gain weight -- regardless of when you eat it.
However, it does help with your metabolism if you spread your meals throughout the day and not make any one of them huge.

Because its harder to burn off the calories when you are asleep. Technically you are supposed to eat a big lunch and a light dinner (i.e. salad). If you get a hunger pain at 2 a.m. eat some carrots or a peach. It offers better health benefits than 4th meal at Taco Bell anyhow.

At night your body and your metabolism slows down. If you eat a heavy caloric meal at night, you'll just store the calories without burning them. That's why they say you should eat your heaviest caloric meal for breakfast.

well if you are trying to lose weight it might be important unless you stay up all night and sleep during the day lol
at night your body isn't active so it uses less calories, and extra calories are stored as fat!!
also it will help you sleep better if your body isn't up all night trying to digest food
hope this answers your Q!!

Its probably a good idea if your trying to lose weight. Theoretically if you eat more during the day, you have more time to work it off before you sleep, but i don't know if its been scientifically proven.
