winamp is very customizeable
VLC has a lot of formats and plugins to make it play almost every file you can throw at it.
also try sourceforge.net and search media player. some of the projects are dead now, but a lot of them are pretty cool.
if you have nothing else left though, you can try to live with windows media player.

i would personally go for iTunes, but a good alternatinve one would be winamp \ windows media player classic (classic maybe old but its actually more stable than the newer ones)

use any of them, media player 11, real player, wuicktime,winamp etc...
