Really, you want to search this out. There are plenty of forums that will help you figure out the best way to do this. DO NOT JUST WIPE YOUR HARD DRIVE. Ask around where you live, surely there is a geeky egghead like me that would be willing to help. I promise, just ask folks.
FORUMS are your FRIEND.
Last question, why would you want to do this? Is there some supposed advantage of ME that you are trying to take advantage of?

What you are talking about is called dual-booting, or multibooting. To do this, you need to Install WinME first. Wipe your entire hard drive and partition it into two halves. Then when you are done installing ME, install XP on the other partition.

First u must have Cd bootable Win Me and restart your PC and run the SETUP on the advanced options choose to have the CD ROM first boot device and go on with the installation. BUT YOU MUST NOT INSTALL WIN ME IN THE SAME PARTITION it will cause both not work.
Maybe WIN XP not work if this happened don't worry just reinstall WIN XP and choose repair windows XP in the thirsd screen not the first one and you will find your windows XP exist as you left it.

you have to set the boot ini for dual boot, and make sure you didn't destry the xp install with the me. You can't run both of them at the same time, you can set the boot.ini file to stop and allow you to choose which one to boot with, if you install correctly, but I am wondering if you did. Did you use dual partitions or drives?, was xp on a fat32 drive? or ntfs

You have to clean install the operating system. Right now you are just upgrading your system, (suppossedly), which gets rid of your older system and just keeps the newer one. In order to fix the problem, you should choose to clean install our system, instead of just updating, which is the default setting, at the very beginning of the installation.

You can run only one Os at a time. not both windows at a time. but u can access that drive where the other Os is installed. if that drive formatings are same type like FAT32, NTFS.
