Many people are confused about dandruff and flaking. Dandruff like stated before is actual chucks of your scalp falling off, do to several reasons, anything from oiliness to genetics. Flakes, those annoying and sometimes embarrassing white things on your shoulders is 90% of the time an allergic reaction to the shampoo you are using the other 10% is styling products, brushes, combing to hard etc etc etc.

The common dandruff that affects more than 50 percent of Caucasians and 80 percent of people of African descent is caused by the fat waste of two types of fungus:Malassezia restricta and Malassezia globosa.

They feed on fats secreted from your hair follicles. They leave partially digested fats that linger on your scalp, and cause irritation that leads to dandruff.

Dry skin. Soriasis (can't spell it) .Don't use tar based shampoos for that. it just makes the flakes of skin stick like glue onto your scalp. I use head and shoulders , but hair cutters hate me for using it,because it has zinc in it. But i believe they hate it because they can't sell me their expensive BS salon products which I tried and made my scalp worse.Sometimes it is caused by a fungus that grows in moist gardens and if you spend a lot of time gardening, you can catch it. it's microscopic and no big deal.
