Avast is better and the home version is free.
If you are using windows xp it will install and do a reboot and scan for virus before windows loads.
You can also do the reboot scan anytime later, it also will run in safe mode where most anti-virus programs dont.
Also a Anti-Virus is just a preventer not a protector and is only good if it has the current updates, windows is updated, and you have a good anti-spyware program.
I recommend Spysweeper also

I agree with bill, use Avast. It's free just requires registering for the home version which lasts 14 months before you have to register again.
I've heard really good things about AVG in the past but lately I've heard a lot of bad things. Such as knowing a lot of people who have gotten viruses with it.

I used to use AVG but I prefer AntiVir PersonalEdition classic which is free. It runs on many platforms and i don't think it's well known (hint: the virus writers won't think of making a work around for it, etc).

Very effective and clean interface.

The free version doesn't include a Heuristics scanner, which means it can't find viruses that aren't in its database.

The paid version is ok and will suit your protection needs but if your going to pay you should rather go with Kaspersky

If you have DSL.. NO!!!.. if you have dialup and don't spend much time on the internet.. it's ok

for my DSL computers.. I prefer ZoneAlarm Security Suite...

or.. you can download several other freeware virus detectors but you need to keep them updated all of the time yourself!!

welll.. as one of our friends suggested earlier, it depends on the System and what kindda OS u wanna use for...

In ma oppinion, i would say its good for Windows Server 2003, and am really happy with it , and if u noticed they use AVG in uni's network computers...
But for XP OS and normal use PCs i would recomend Norton is the best...;)

Good luck;)
