There's a monorail track in New Mexico called the HHSTT or something, and they launched a sled down the track at mach 8. I think it was a little over 6,000 mph. It's the fastest rocket sled on earth. They started testing military equipment and they also made John Paul Stapp the fastest man on earth while seeing how many G's the human body could endure. He survived after a deceleration exerting 46.2 G's.

The manmade object that is moving the fastest may be one of the Helios spacecraft that used a gravity boost and/or a highly elliptical orbit around the sun to reach in excess of 150,000 mph.

The X-15 reached just over Mach 6.
The SR71 wasn't the plane that set the aircraft records, it was the YF-12, which was a single seat version of the SR71.
