Baptism is usually a rite of passage into the church, basically a welcoming into the congregation, although some will say it also ensures a spot in heaven when you die. Some say that if a baby dies without receiving baptism that it will be stuck in limbo, not heaven nor hell, but somewhere in between or separate from the two extremes. Some churches offer baptism to infants and others offer baptism for adults. When an infant is baptised, it is usually in a baptismal fountain. Prayers are said over the infant and then the infant is blessed with holy water. When an adult is baptised, it is usually in a large baptismal fountain or a pool of water/holy water. The adult is fully sumerged, but prayers are still said.
