I understand that you feel upset but you can't really force people to throw you a party. They did know you were getting married, right? At my doctor's office, I'm actually very tired of spending money on other people's wedding showers, baby showers, and bridal showers as that I don't have kids and I'm single. Birthday's I don't mind so much. Just the next time they ask you to put in on someone else wedding shower, politely decline saying you didn't a shower so you're not paying for another.

Nothing wrong with a simple "Best Wishes". Like "Happy Birthday", it is often used because there is simply nothing more appropriate.
