My fiance' recently acquired herself a stalker and we were curious as to if there are any free websites on the internet that you can view a persons criminal record or see if they have one. We live in Michigan. Apparently this guy went to elementary and high school with her but she doesn't remember him but in a handwriten letter he states he has loved her since elementary school which was almost 30 years ago.
If there are any sites we could log in and see if this guy has been busted for this stuff before. We did go to the police and they agree that a 6 page letter to someone they havent seen in 28 years and don't even really know is NOT NORMAL. They called the city hall in the city he lives and got his number(s), all of which are disconnected. Any help would be great. The police say "yes" he IS wierd and we should be cautious, but he hasn't broken any laws yet... we dont want to wait until laws have been broken. Scarey creepy stuff here.

It will cost you ten bucks but under the circumstances, it sounds like it would be worth it

There's no FREE sites to look up the info. If you google "criminal records report" you'll find a number of sites that'll give you the info for 30 bucks or so.. Ya might also look up the court websites for your jurisdiction. They'll likely have a service of their own.
You may consider getting the court to issue a restraining order. Stalking is a crime, but has to occur FIRST. And is tough to prove. Getting a restraining order is much easier, and only requires a legitimate reason. Think of it as a quicker method of getting what he does considered criminal.
Good luck to you guys. It's definately creepy.

Since that is in public records, it is freely available to anyone who may want it. Sometimes it is not so easy getting the information. There are websites that will get this information, but you will have a pay some money to get it. I don't know if one is any better than the others, so you will have to compate them. As with any transaction, ask as many questions as you need to find out the best option.

It not free but a website called "NetDectective" is about $20. If you get the PLUS feature -- just ensure you cancel before the 7-day free trial or you'll be charged for it.

You are wise to not take this lightly. One never knows what someone is capable of.

The only requirement that I know of for online records are those for sex offenders (Michigan's is at http://www.mipsor.state.mi.us). Sites like "US Search" (http://ussearch.com) will give you help -- for a fee.

But it's still public information -- just go to a reception desk at your county courthouse and ask them how you might get a hold of criminal records.

In my city the clerk of courts maintains a searchable database on the web that the general public can access. Google the name of your city and state and see if you have one.
