History is systematically collected information about the past. When used as the name of a field of study, history refers to the study and interpretation of the record of humans, families, and societies. Knowledge of history is often said to encompass both knowledge of past events and historical thinking skills.
Traditionally, the study of history has been considered a part of the humanities. However, in modern academia, history is increasingly classified as a social science, especially when chronology is the focus.

you may split this word as HIS- STORY ,meaning a reaaaally looooooooooooooong exhaustive story relating to some event, person, the event should also be a major catalyst in transforming the worlds or atleast a nations way of working.
Recently this question was ruling the roost in every historian's mind, why? well the tussle was after how many years can you classify a event as historic enough to be mentioned in those thick, dusty ,erudite history books! The event in question was the 9/11 incident, what came out of the debate was that a major event should atleast be 30-40 years old to be quoted in those books,no wonder we all have trouble remembering those tongue twisting names and dates, who would'nt if it is 200-300 years old!!!!
