Luk 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Luk 6:13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
Luk 6:14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
Luk 6:15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
Luk 6:16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.

Mar 3:19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.

from the passages you can see that Judas Iscariot, is different from all other Judas. The name Judas is not meant for only one person, and because there are other persons called Judas around Jesus, hence Judas Iscariot was identified by "one of the twelve who betrayed Jesus, or Judas the betrayer etc.

I've put some thought and research into this. As an Esoteric Christian I don't take scripture as literally as the rest of Christendom, but I believe if we had more of the scripture from the early Christians, those were eventually labeled heretics and had their writings burned and destroyed, we would have a clearer picture of who Judas Iscariot was. Some of this knowledge can be deduced by what the Church (Roman Catholic) taught about Him and Christ in relation to Him early on... basically a "what is it they AREN'T telling us and WHY" logic. And possibly, though I doubt it, the Vatican may have some of these early writings, however hidden and virtually reduced to fragments of dust they would be by now.

Judas Iscariot was one of the disciples of Jesus Christ. The only disciple who seemed to be kneeling down in the painting of "The Last Supper". He was also the one who betrayed Jesus to the Roman soldiers by giving him a kiss on the cheek in exchange for thirty pieces of silver.
