Not sure where you are based but if you are in the UK, I would try your local council. they often have funding available for VO's. Failing that, the local library should be able to point you in the right direction...or try your local MP, should be able to give you advice on applying for EC funding. Depending on what sort of organisation you are involved with, you may be able to apply directly to their government body.
eg...I used to organise a week of sport and art at my childrens' school and applied successfully to the Sports and Arts council for funding to employ qualified teachers for the week.

In addition, you could apply to the National Lottery, they have considerable funds available.

All of the above have very long and complicated forms to complete but it is possible to obtain funding if you look hard enough. Have a search on the internet too, there is usually a lot of other types of funding that you can apply for.

sorry if you are not in the UK, I can only speak for there...however, it might help someone:)

My first thought on this question was no, no government body should have that right, but you go on to mention public funding. If the charities want to be funded from the public purse they should abide by the laws which prevent discrimination. The charity you work for may only require a sympathetic attitude to the work that charity is doing, but is that always the case do you think? It is unhelpful to say the SE only wants people of another or no religious persuasion. Using words like 'foist' is also rather foolish. It seems to me they are merely saying that the charity cannot discriminate against non-religious people or those of a different faith.

Make enquiries with the philanthropic organisations in your area.
Make sure you know exactly how much you want and for how long. Do your homework. Good luck.
