I'm not an american, but I like american recipes... But I'm not sure what kind of flower you consider to be "all purpose"...

All-purpose flour is made from a blend of high- and low-gluten wheats. You can always substitute all-purpose flour for bread flour, although your results may not be as glorious as you had hoped. There are many recipes, however, where the use of bread flour in place of all-purpose will produce a tough, chewy, disappointing result. Cakes, for instance, are often made with all-purpose flour, but would not be nearly as good made with bread flour.

??? I would think no as most recipies that use all purpose also add yeast or baking soda or baking powde, and that there is a flour titled "self rising"

I believe she means flour, lol.
And no, I don't think they are the same thing. Self-raising seems to have "leavening agents" mixed in, while all-purpose is "blended wheat flour".

P.S. Don't listen to all the idiots answering that "yes they are the same thing". they can't, and aren't, the same thing. People shouldn't randomly answer things they know nothing about.

all purpose FLOUR is not the same thing as self-rising flour..........you can use self-rising in most recipes when it says to use all purpose..........just don't add the baking powder and the salt

I never use all purpose flour and all of my recipes come out just fine.

No. All-purpose flour is just the most common flour sold. Self-rising flour has added ingredients to make it rise.

all purpose is a mix of hard and soft flour (higher and lower amounts of protein). cake flour is an example of soft flour, bread flour is an example of hard flour. i'm not sure about self rising but i think they add yeast.

No, all-purpose flour is not self-rising flour. You have to add baking powder and baking soda for it to rise.

Self-rising flour is just that - self-rising flour.
