Are they in fear of Northern Vietnam?

2006-06-19 21:38:10 · 9 answers · asked by phwar68 5 in Politics & Government Military

Snowy-I'm talkin' bout Northern Vietnam-read the question. And I don't really think the U.S. writes anyones constitution, save their own. Do you have an opinion, or do you let the BBC tell you what it is?

No they are not!

The Japanese constitution which was drafted by the U.S occupation forces after the second world war prevents them from taking part in military action outside of their own borders.

Their soldiers in Iraq were there only on a re-construction and aid mission and were under the protection of British and Australian soldiers. They were building hospitals and infrastructure and not patrolling or even carrying weapons.

Their job is completed, and the entire area where they were operating is now the first part of Iraq tro be handed over to the Iraqi army and police force to maintain order. There have been no incidents there at all.

The Japanese are going home as their designated task is completed and the Brits and Aussies are being re-deployed elsewhere in Iraq.

This is the start of the pattern of handing control back to the Iraqis as each area is stabilised.

There is plenty of news coverage on the BBC website today if you want to read it.

WHAT??? My dog's not afraid of Vietnam. I don't know that we've ever counted on Japan militarily, so I don't know what you mean by "bailing." On the other hand, they have been getting fairly bold recently. They are co-sponsoring misslie defense programs in the Pacific with us, they are helping advise Taiwan's military leadership, growing their military, deploying a handful of support guys to Iraq, they've fired on a Chinese sub in their waters. They ar debating a change to their constitution to allow normal military operation in the modern world. I'd say if anything they are charging to our aid in the region.
